The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Silent Nirnroot
I'd plated this game on the console in the past, and nirnroots always made the distinct humming noise. I started playing on the pc, and now the roots are silent. Anybody know why this is?

Oh I've noticed that too. I've heard it a few times while playing. Sometimes it won't make a sound. On the console, I heard it all the time. I've also noticed that I'll cast my heal spell, it'll make the "woosh" sound, but sometimes when I cast immediately again, it won't make a sound XD

There is a mod that says it will make the nirn sound louder and i guess it does but still some times it does not play at all. I have tested over and over and some spots are definitely consistant in not making a sound. I checked modded and unmodded, patches and no patches and even checked in the CS but see no reason for this.

I have bypassed the issue by using a respawning nirnroot mod so if i do miss some it is OK as the ones i do find will respawn in 72 hours.

BTW I also have played XBOX without the silent nirnroot issue and have even checked on XBOX and there is definitely a difference

Yeah, I've noticed the same issue with healing. I might try reinstalling and seeing if the issue persists.

same here but i think it's the unofficial patches causing it or Beth's problem with sound codecs, not sure, anyway i know were they are,i've also got the angry face (player) bug

Most likely culprits are limited number of channels for sound or codec issues. It is also possible that it might have to do with the number of sound files queued for play, in the case of the spells at least.

As for the occasional missing sound when casting spells too quickly I can confirm this is normal. make a 1 point spell target yourself and cast it continously while blocking. you will quite often miss the sound and visual effect even though you have successfully cast the spell. Trust me, after all the hours I have spent raising my magic skills on pc and xbox i have seen it many, many times. yes you do cast more quickly when blocking.

try to sell 1 item over and over to a vendor and you will see that when done quickly enough they will remark on the sale only every other time.

the reasoning I do not know but can confirm it is normal.

I've also noticed in my game that the nirnroots have no glow. It can't be due to unofficial patches or mods, because I have no third party add-ons or patches installed.

In Oblivion, Nirnroot doesn't glow. It's got vibrant colours though. Yeah, sometimes I can't hear the sound too. Which makes me sad.

Ahh, I see. I just checked the wiki and the glow was indeed added in later games.
