The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Low magicka
Has anyone else found this game super difficult with low magic because I always have to heal myself constantly. I would stock up on potions but they just throw all my gold down the drain. I always end up choosing the mage birthsign just to have extra magic to heal

yeah, its quite annoying, but I prefere the mage sign in Morrowind too, so I choose it here anyway. But a free advice: Toggle down difficulty :D
Bump up your speed, athletics, and acrobatics to avoid being hit. Also, at low levels you're better off ignoring armor has it offers very little protection while greatly slowing you down.

You gotta learn to avoid enemy attacks and spells. That's the best way.

It may be a bit of a cheat, but I usually add Breton Magicka to my Nord for a small bonus to magicka. I do this mostly to make skilling up magic easier, so I can spam spells for longer early on.

Breton (50)
player.addspell 00047ad2

or

Altmer (100)
player.addspell 00047adc

You can even add both for 150 magicka, unless you are one of those two races already.

1)Create potions by yourself.
There are Flax around Skingrad and Blue Steel .. cap near Chorrol.

2)Wear clothes not Armor when you are in open space so you can run away from battle.
And look for Jone stone http://www.uesp.net/maps/obmap/obmap.shtml?centeron=Jone+Stone& if you have 10 fame. It helps.

3)Use Wayshrine and Ayleid well
Wayshrine recovers your helth and Ayleid well recovers your magicka.

I recently started a Breton battlemage (using heavy armor, destruction, restoration). I'm also using the warrior birthsign, and I haven't had any problems with magicka once yet even after playing 11 hours so far. I recommend taking everything slowly. Don't try to rambo or you'll get crushed, and spend time leveling up. When you level up, upgrade your intellegence to increase your magicka points and endurance for more health. Hope I helped.

Also on a sidenote, NEVER.. EVER.. use the atronach birthsign for a mage. On my first ever playthrough (on the Xbox 360, in '07), I played the entire game (literally, everything.) with the atronach birthsign and it was very hellish.

@Noqda
But Atronach sign is very strong vs Magic user.
I sometimes adopt atronach birthsign for Pure Fighter.
50% chance to neglect opponet magic attack is very useful.

Bretons have a good amount of starting magicka so it doesn't concern me. I was able to create a breton warrior. Kinda fragile at first but really started kicking ass later. Making an imperial warrior was hard because the amount of starting magicka.
