The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Help a girl out (mods)
I know i should be in the kitchen making sandwiches barefoot but somehow i wandered onto the computer during steam sales this year and jumped on oblivion. I know i set female kind back likely a decade by asking for help on a video game but... im so used to the easy of modding skyrim on steam (workshop is a godsend) that im at a loss for modding oblivion without. I have googled modding oblivion for dummies and found nexus but that place was a horrible slow lagging terrible nightmare of no comparison. EVENTUALLY i was able to sign in after much headaches. Guides i have found as so damned technical im at a loss. I don't want cheats or anything overtly broken, just some fancy graphics upgrades. Sigh. Anyway i guess until i get some more succint assistance ill go back to the kitchen.

Please help?

Nexus is the place. there are other sites but nexus has the most.
http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/5296/?
http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/9969/?
http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/10739/?
these are your patches. you will need them

http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/topalltime/?adult=0
these are the top 100 oblivion mods endorsed by users

sadly nexus is not plug and play like steam. i suggest using a Mod manager. my choice is Mod Organizer. it does take some study but it is worth it because it will work with oblivion, skyrim, fallout and new vegas and most likely the next games by Bethesda. tyou will spend a couple of hours but it is worth it to set up. just watch the intro vid. come back and ask me any questions you have.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE7DlYarj-DcLS9LyjEqOJwFUQIIQewcK
this is my current mods. some are fully checked out while others are still being checked out. With MO(mod organizer) I can put in and take out mods very easily if i find i do not like them or they do not work. I need to do something about my water though.
any questions ask away.
you will also need the script extender and you should use the 4gb patch. LOOT helps but i do not use it or need it as I spent many hours manually adding and sorting mods before I discovered MO. all links are available in nexus or ask if you can not find them.
BTW girls should be playing games while mothers should be in the kitchen bare foot and pregnant ;)

Okay lets start with basic question from what i can gather youve given to me here. I need a mod organizer to help make things easier. Which one do you recommend? Once i get one of those, do i just download the mods straight into the oblivion folder or does it not matter? >.> Sorry im a baddie.

Mod organizer. watch the intro vid. easy to follow instructions. once installed you just click on the download with manager button in the mod download area, very easy once MO is installed.
it is showed with Skyrim but any game oblivion, fallout3, new vegas is the basic thingy.

This one will help you. Most mods on nexus can be installed with one-click from the website if the Nexus mod manager is installed.

Do you always have to be known as the "damsel in the distress" too? I wouldn't want a sandwich either way (I prefer more of Subway's one), oh wait here, some free Dorito.

Yeah well with gamergate going around saying men treat women like crud in the gaming community i have embraced the stereotype. That and i make lovely sandwiches don't be sad you aren't here to compare to subway (blech).

Apparently giving out your gender information totally helps you out. Meanwhile, enjoy the hidden peodphile rapers on Steam.
I use what i got. I see other people asking the same questions i had and people just link nexus and ignore them. I got results. I feel no shame in that.
Basicly. Installing mods for Oblivion invovles a lot of reading for new users. You could simply install which mods you want one at a time and try them out before trying out multiple mods. You have to keep an eye out on how these mods interact with other mods that you want to add and having an idea of what these mods change and have effect on in the game will reduce the possibilities of you installing a mod that makes changes to the same "object".
The tools that are very useful would be Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM), Wrye Bash, Better Oblivion Sorting Software (BOSS). These are all that you need and these have been used by the community for years.

Order in which mods should be installed first? Mods that should be installed first are the Unofficial patches and they usually come with self-installers. Depending on which version of the game you have (GOTY or Deluxe edition). You install either Unofficial Oblivion patch (UOP) and Unofficial Shivering Isles patch (USIP) or you install both of them and the Unofficial Official Oblivion Mods patch.
After the unofficial patches should be texture mods like texture packs.
After that you install pretty much what you want, but you gotta keep in mind what files are you gonna overwrite.
You're gonna save yourself a lot of trouble if you read the readme files.

For the record, Wrye Bash isn't a simple utility tool. It's good for advanced users, the soon you get to know it the better. Oblivion Mod Manager is great, because then you can install mods that are available in the OMOD version. Which is for OBMM.

I hope this helps. Also, welcome to the community Allison.

Steam is like the internet but it has a gaming side effect on top.

How sexist do you find steam?

So far I dont find it sexist at all really. But then, like i said other people have posed this question in the forums and are left hanging with a link to nexus mods and no explination. So in a sort of reverse sexism, throwing out my gender helped me more than the poor boys.

Anyway update....ive tried all sorts of mod assistants and nothing seems to work well. Spent all sorts of time on youtube watching videos about 1, only for me to pick a mod and it come up with an error. Tried another mod organizer and kept gettign errors left and right about files conflicting. Then today tried to start over from stratch after uninstalling all my mods and organizers only for oblivion to crash 5 minutes in and refuse to open again. Im really about to throw in the towel over it all. Thanks for all the help guys.
If your looking for a Necromancer mod...Moriarcis, best necromancer mod adds a small undead kingdom that you can rule (Underground aylied kingdom I might add) many necromancer oriented spells like a spell that tears their soul from their body (gives you a nice buff) and with their soul goes their flesh. Looking for homes I would recommend shadowcrest Vineyard VERY detailed and Noble-ish. want an improved boss fight mannimarco revisited pretty nice if you ask me. A good race mod would be better dark elves it adds all sorts of tattoo's for your character depending on their age and makes them look slightly better. Midas Magic obviously for spell expansion and as for mounts and such......thats up to you I personally like the mount that comes with the rather large mod "Reaper's Tower" an evil house mod. Otherwise those are my top mods...Have fun!
I hope your read this OP. Make sure you go to My Documents/MyGames/Oblivion/ folder, find and delete Oblivion.ini . The game should work after you do that. The file is called Oblivion. ( ini type of file )
If you still can't understand how to use these mod organizers, feel free to add me. I'll explain it to you to the best of my abilities. It would be a shame for you to give up already.
