Oblivion GOTYE crash when sleeping
When I launch the game it takes about 5 minutes to load the title screen, but that's probably due to the amount of mods I use. Loading times in game are perfectly normal and take a few seconds.

So I played for a bit, and I levelled up. So, I hired a bed in an inn ( oak and crosier ) and slept. Put it on 1 hour, bar slided down normally but when I woke I got no level screen but was in fact met by my desktop. No error, no 'oblivion stopped working' just straight CTD.

Ohh and, I've got OBSE installed and working, but it's quite random. Sometimes if I load I get a message it's not working, other time I get no message at al and it seems to work fine.

I used OBMM for most mods.

So, does anyone have an idea what's causing this? or what I can do to stop it?
Here's a list of my mods in their current load order.

its a 32bit game at a guess you max out the memory alottance for the game. the mods still must remain within a 32bit games allowance, skyrim had the same problem till its engine was upgraded to 64 bit, then modders went crazy with it. Also having that many mods im guessing you havent cleaned them or bashed them or merged them? there could be dozens of them overwriting eachother in the load order.

No, I'm afraid I haven't. Thing is though, that I've used this exact list of mods when I played Oblivion from a disc. Using the same mods on Steam's GOTYE this happens. I've fixed the OBSE problem by using an older version of obse instead. So now the sleep thing is my only problem, the rest of the game runs fine.

Nothing jumps out based on the load order, other than not having a bashed patch. You really should, especially with those mods.

Curious about the OBSE thing though. You don't have your Steam directory under Program Files do you? Are you running as admin?

The only other thing that springs to mind, since you say use you OBMM, did you ever uninstall any kind of levelling or UI mod? OBMM is really bad for uninstalling those kind of things properly.

Actually, installed a mod that removes the changes to leveling that OOO makes. (OOO-Level_Normal.esp) OOO makes gathering enough XP for a level-up take 3 times as long. There's an official OOO plugin that reverses that. I installed that using OBMM. It works fine though, I leveled up though instantlevelup=1 in the INI because I couldn't sleep. So the leveling seems to work fine. I doubt it's the problem. I've been having problems (obviously) with Basic Primary Needs, as that requires me to sleep. So now I drink coffee all day in, and out of the game :P

So far, I've managed to play the game without sleeping, but it's still a pain in the bum.
I'll try looking into 'bashed patch', I believe that's something to do with Wrye Bash

You should try to disable the autosave to see if that works.

Yeah, just changing the level rates won't cause problems. It's mods that change the xml files (for example the screen that pops up when you level up and choose what attributes to increase) that can cause it. Disabling autosaves is a good suggestion. Does the game also crash if you wait?

The bashed patch won't fix the crashes but it'll help with other conflicts. Pretty simple, just install Wrye Bash and ideally run your load order through BOSS to let it apply tags, then click on the bashed patch file and rebuild with the default options. You can change whatever you want, but the defaults work out of the box.

And... glad the coffee is helping you! ;)

With this amount of mods, you must get Wrye Bash and use the bashed patch feature! Also you need to look at your mods with BOSS to see how many of them are dirty. You can clean them up with TES4Edit. As mentioned above, don't use autosaves.

I cleaned the dirty mods and disabled autosave in the ini. Yes, It also crashes whenever I wait, forgot to mention that. I'll try the bashed patch thing.

You might want to go to a secluded place or open the console and write: coc testinghall or coctestinghall, something like that. After you go there, wait or sleep for 3 days. If you've tampered with the respawn timer, then wait the needed time. After three days, you can go to a door that leads to Hawkhaven I think, then simply fast travel to somewhere.

I've installed Wrye Bash, but I can't get it to run. A loading screen pops up for about a second, then completely closes. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Used an older version which did work, made a bashed patch, went to the testinghall and tried to wait for 3 days. Sadly, still crashed. Any suggestions? Think I might be running out of options.

(thanks for the great support so far btw, really appreciate it!)

Unfortunately from here on it can get painful.

If you load an earlier save does it still happen? How about if you start a new game?

If you disable ALL mods, does it still happen? If not, then it's likely a mod problem. Try enabling half your mods and test, then the other half. Then half of whichever group causes the problem etc until you find the mods that's causing it.

If it's a mod problem, you can sometimes recover by making a clean save and then re-enabling the mod. If it's a corrupted save often all you can do is revert to an earlier save from before the problem started, especially if you can't go to the testinghall and wait.

If it's none of the above...?

I started a new game and it worked fine. Odd how I hadn't tried that, but anyway, sadly the save is (presumably) lost.

Thanks again everyone who helped me with the problem, it's really appreciated.
