The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

How to get the Add-ons?
Two years ago I bought the Oblivion Game of the Year Edition. I purchased it cheap on a Danish website and activated it on Steam. I just installed Steam and only used it, when I played Oblivion. Only recently I have begun to really use Steam and then I discovered the Deluxe Edition with all the Add-Ons... :-/
Anyhow... Now I have been playing Oblivion for more than 300 hrs, and I would like some of the add-ons, like the Fighter's Stronghold and the Horse Armor Pack. Not necessarily all of them, but some of them.

Should I buy the Deluxe Edition (I don't think I qualify for an upgrade) and if so, do I loose my current save games?
Or can I purchase the selected add-ons from another website?

you will not lose your saves but to be sure you may want to back them up to another folder. I would uninstall Oblivion completely before upgrading.

As far as I know the DLCs are not available by themselves anywhere. you are forced to get the deluxe edition if you want them.

As to if you should. I f you were buying the game and was wondering if you should get the standard or deluxe I would tell you to get the deluxe. especially if the game is on sale for 50%+. for a few dollars it is worth it. Since you would get the deluxe to upgrade, hopefully waiting for a sale, That is a personal choice.

10-15 us dollars at 50% off, whatever that works out to be in Denmark could be alot of money for someone that doesn't have much to begin with and could be spent to buy a completely different game or part of that game anyways.

I probabably wouldn't upgrade but this comes from someone that bought Skyrim at full price on xbox and then 6 months later on Steam. I f you love a game the money doesn't seem to be that big a deal.

Yes, sad you bought it without the official DLC, but today they are needed.

Oblivion has thousands of mods and many require Shivering Isle. Oblivion is wonderful with mods and not worthy at all without them.

I don't know if this gonna work for you, but I have the "Knights Of the Nine" with the DLC:s on DVD and also have the "Game of the year edition" with the "Knights Of the Nine" and "Shivering Isles" + the DLC:s on 2 DVD:s.

I don't if you can istall the DLC:s from the disc to your Steam Oblivion.

You can take a look at the link here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/22330/discussions/0/530649887201335307/

I noticed that you can buy the DLCs seperatly on XBox, but then it probably won't work with my version from Steam...

Maybe I should just add Oblivion Deluxe Edition to my wishlist on Steam and wait for it to come on sale. After all I got Skyrim on sale for only 5€!
Then I could try make a copy of my savefiles, delete my current Oblivion and install the new one - with DLC and see if I can load my save game. I'm definitely not starting over with a new character! Then I would rather continue without DLCs... I really just want the Horse Armor and Battlehorn Castle! :)

But what is really strange is, that Steam tells me I already have the Game of the Year Deluxe Edition. When I search for it in store, it tells me "Already in your library"... I don't understand it.

Don't worry with saves. When you load a save and there is a new esp enabled, that mod will be loaded and if needed it will run its setup code. You can also load a save after disabling an esp, you'll just lose the data related to that esp on the next saves you create.

I myself don't like horse armor, I don't like horse at all, never use them.

Battlehorn is cool considering only vanilla, we can own our own castle. It has a couple of guards that can be comnpanions, a wine cellar, a blacksmith, some beds. But if you compare it with mods created by players, it's trash. Any user created house is better than Battlehorn, any user created companion is better than those guards. There are even a couple mods that enhance it with more guards and environment.

I suggest you to try Imperial Manor and Better Benirus Manor, IM's author is still active and talking on nexusmod's forum. The manor is big and has some cool stuff, 4 servants and a lot of beds for companions. BBM reforms BM after it's owned by the player, it's very cool, and there is Rosalinda that's voiced by the girl that created the mod, her voice is sweet.

You can also try Emma's houses, even the smaller ones are full of features and Red Rose Manor is big and has an underground natural pool.

The only use for official mods is when a good mod requires them. Usually only Shivering Isle is required.

Mods sounds cool...

My character - Jens - lives in Rosethorn Hall now, but I'm running out of space. The containers takes a while to open and it annoys me, that I have to store the swords, bows etc in the same chest.
I would like a house with many containers...
My previous character lived in Benirus Manor, which has a lot of boxes in the basement. I just don't like that house.

Actually I never use horses either - whenever I want to ride, I find myself a unicorn... So when I think about it, I don't need the Horse Amour Pack.

I just don't know how to use mods and I'm afraid I might wreck the game trying!

BM was my favorite house for some time. Vanilla houses are small and it's the only manor, and with my own secret chamber!! As I said, BBM makes it even better, I can warp directly inside the chamber from anywhere and be welcomed by Rosalinda. It also has a pretty bed, a kitty and a ghost butler.

But then I moved to Red Rose Manor. There's a mod that allows me to create warp points anywhere and does the job that BBM has. The house is pretty (I'm always impressive how pretty, advanced and rock solid stable is any Emma's work!) and has a well placed COBL sorter. I just warp close to it and have everything I need at hand.

There's also ArmoryLab. It's great and one of the first mods I tried. Its containers are awesomely placed so that we can easily organize our stuff and it has a manekin mod built-in. Instead of storing armors in storages, we have them exposed to be seen. And there's a mod for it that adds more manekins. But I dropped it because it doesn't have a COBL sorter (it has a hard worked one created for it, but COBL is better) and it's not a house, it doesn't even have a bed or a chair.

Anyway, any fan made house is full of containers, you'll never worry anymore.

Also, don't be afraid of mods. Just backup your saves. Oblivion's engine was created specially for advanced support of high number of mods. It's full of bugs and they are annoying, but a lot of people worked hard for many years to overcome them and make handling them easier.

I have almost 100 mods installed and have almost 100 still to try. There were a few that made the game crash and I had to uninstall, but fortunately I was able to never lose any item. Some like MMMM are hard to install but just read tutorials and I'm good. Wrye Bash and MOM do the hard work of installing handling conflicted files.

The worst thing that happened to me was try to merge Colourwheel's races with Romancing Eyja. Colourwheels is a hentai girl that created a naughty mod with prettier races and customized A LOT of female NPCs to look prettier. Romancing Eyja adds a new Eyja NPC with new features and a romance quest. I just wanted to pick Colourwheel's customizations on original Eyja NPC and apply then into Romancing Eyja's one!

I wasted 3 days trying to make it work and had to throw away every mod work I did and revert save back to before I started. That was VERY frustrating because there was no reason for it to not work. Regardless of what I tried, when Romancing Eyja's NPC spawned with her data changed to use Colourwheel's race and customs, the game crashed. And when I finally got a fair customized Romancing Eyja's NPC working (she didn't have Colourwheel's race but had some of her customizations), after I finally playing a bit, when I left a city (any city) into wilderness (any place!)... the game crashed again. This fking game engine is bugged with some annoying conflict that I faced and nobody else in all these years seem to have suffered.
