A homeless simulator indeed.

Most popular chest for start up character is Jauffre' s chest.
Just deliver the Amulet then ask Jauffre for aids.
He will offer Chest for your use.

If you have the GOTYD you get four free-ish houses. Four. And you only have to pay a few thousand gold to upgrade them with stuff.

Go to Aleswell and there is a quest that can be completed, which involves making invisible people become visible again. If done right, one of them will be very grateful and give you a room for free and it has safe storage. That's what I did on my very first walkthrough.

Yes NPCs, some times take your stuff , it reminds me my previous character, I droped all my stuff on the floor of Skingrad's Mages Guild, and I had a cristal sword enchanted with a sigil stone somewhere in there, and I stole somethig for accident, I refuced to pay and the faight started, a guard hit me so many times with his knife that it broke and he took my enchanted sword and killed me whith 3 hits.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Edit.
I was trining on heavy armor at that time. Also the NPCs some times grab the ingredients and eat them.

The best place for players to store their items in the beginning of the game is in the Imperial City Market District.

There are six "Open-Topped" grain sacks located there, three on both sides between the shops.

Just be careful storing food or rare ingredients on the side with the inn, the beggar will pass through there and may eat your food.

All open topped grain sacks are non respawning, so you find free storage all over the place. You can also find them in most guilds and some dungeons.

all the info you need on if a container is respawning or not ans where to find them. I still laugh at how much you can put in a clam.

you need The Magicial,Couldn't play without, Bag of Holding http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/4065/? most would consider it a cheat item, i consider it essential....getting encumbered by arrows pisses me off

You know, I like how Oblivion handles arrow weight. It's weird to me when arrows don't weigh anything in Skyrim, and I can have THOUSANDS OF THOUSANDS of arrows. But it can get pretty annoying...

OP, when I start a game I mostly run through the arena, then do Glarither's quest, steal his money, and then get a house in the Imperial City's waterfront. 2000 gold, and a small area so you don't have to run around the entire house.

One way I make money in the beginning of the game is to join the Mages Guild.

Once a member take all the Alchemy apparatus items and sell them. I usually do that while doing the recommendation quests. If you go to each city you can find enough apparatus to sell to make 6-8K depending on how thorough you are.

Then you use that money to buy the Gauntlets of Gluttony in Bruma for Strengh +15 to increase your damage and max encumberance. You should also have enough to buy the House in the Waterfront district.

I'd do that but I don't want to ruin how the game looks :(

You could always just sell the Alchemy things inside of barrels and counters. The Chorral Mage's Guild is a great example of that.

Sorry, you have to buy a house to store it. Most chests empty after 3 days (if I recall right) sometimes they stay when left on the ground, though. There is a home you can buy in the imperial city, but you need to convince some ♥♥♥♥♥ to let you buy it, and it is small as mimebox.
