molag bal help with quest

i am doing molag bals quest and every time i drop the cursed mace and punch the guy he never picks it up i have tried everything

At some point, he will travel to his wife's grave. You must punch him there as he will not pick up the mace anywhere else. Wait until he is at the the grave, drop the mace, then hit him. Hope this helps.

Also make sure you don't have on any armor that reflects damage.
I've killed him a few times by accident by doing that.

Wait until he visits his wifes grave. He is more easily annoyed at that time. Drop the mace close to him and punch him a few times and he will grab it and attack.

As stated don't wear armor that reflects damage. It is probably better to not wear armor at all so it goes quicker, but be very careful because if he gets you low enough and then lands a power attack he could kill you.

Also I usually like getting him as low as I can without killing him so I can come back right after the quest and train an enemy to him to finish him off so his murder isn't on my stats.

The cursed mace is an awesome skillup weapon. The damage is really low and it is extremely durable at 4200 health. Lets you whack enemies non stop to raise your blunt skill.

i have done all that, btw dp i keep the cursed mace at the end of this quest

After you drop the mace for the guy to pick up, he kills you with it and he keeps the mace after you die and are transported back to the shrine. If you want to use it you have to go back and kill him for it or you might be able to pickpocket it from him when he is asleep. It is in his inventory.

You are given the mace of molag bal as a reward for completing the quest. It is not the same mace.
