The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Hate the Oblivion Gates
I can't stand them! It's the worst aspect of the game. So repetitive and boring! How many will have to destroy to finish the game? I have over 200 hours in the game already with only one character and i destroyed about 20 gates so far.

I think i give up any time soon.

10 fixed gates, 90 "random" gates > http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Oblivion_Gate

u just need to destroy the ones in front of the cities to end the game.
but in my opinion, u should wait for high level. Just ignore them until that poinbt. the sigilstones have useful enchantments

You don't have to bother closing the all gates until you get close to the end of the main quest, unless you are farming for sigil stones.

You only have to close the quest releated gates near the cities, but the other ones aren't really needed until you finish the main quest, then just close what is left.

There are 90 possible random locations where the gates can spawn, but only 50 random gates and 10 fixed gates will appear. 60 should the maximum you can do, but you do not need to close that many.

Closing Oblivion gates is not that bad really.

You can easily just run through all of them without fighting at all if you want to. Fighting makes closing gates take a long time to complete, so I can see why some might not like closing them.

Once you get to level 20 and obtain the Acrobats Amulet and/or Ring of Skimming, you should be able to run through them all in a few minutes.

I'm pretty sure you can finish the main quest by closing a minimum of 3 gates...

Destroying all of them is optional. The only ones that need to be closed are the ones that are part of the main quest, and there aren't many Oblivion Gates that meet that requirement. At maximum, that means only 3 of them need to be closed (10 if you want to make the Defense of Bruma quest easier).

It's why I stopped playing the game al of those years ago and never completed it: just too boring.

I mean it's better than Skyrim in most ways besides graphics. And just finish the story and you'll never run into them again. It's not hard to do

You can close random gate without much effort if you don't want it exist there.
Bring up console then click gate in front of you and type "closeOblivionGate".

You could always add a feckton of mods to improve the graphics, then it's better than Skyrim in almost every aspect ;)

I've played through all 60 Oblivion Gates at least twice in different play throughs and never found it tedious or boring. Depending on level the fights can be fun and challenging. Its even rewarding as its possible to find some unique weapons as well as amulets and rings that are enchanted and quite powerful (depending on level). The most powerful bow in the game is Hatreds Soul and its in an Oblivion Gate.
The best gate is Peryites.
The other bonus is in finding all gates it allows a good portion of the map to be discovered and some locations I think a lot of people never go to because they don't know they exist. How many have found the unique skeletons and their treasure?

The game is a RPG and the fun and challenge is exploring and building a character, not just running around doing stuff like a FPS.

I enjoy going into oblivion gates, i find it a good way to get your skills up, i like the aspect of " going to hell and back" too, i think the wastes of oblivion look cool too, honestly what i dislike most about oblivion gates are the regular clannfear's charging attacks if your speed isnt high enough it can be damn near impossible to avoid it, and it does a good amount of damage, same with the scamps charging at you with their shoulder attack, but man they sure took a lot out of skyrim thats in oblivion... bastards.

Don't go into Quatch, never close the first gate, just enjoy the game and all the side quests > problem solved!

But Oblivion gates have all the best loot :-/ And Dremoras. Lots of Dremoras.
Kongha Feb 14, 2016 @ 12:47pm
there is an excellent mod that makes you auto close most of the gates. I personally hate the world and want my game green and lush :)

I always found them fun.

Used to confuse my little mind oh so many years ago, but definitely fun now.
