The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Oblivion crashing alot in game after I installed unoffical oblivion patches
My game crashes during random times while im playing now after I downloaded the unofficial oblivion patch, the DLC and Shivering isles one as well. I used Nexus Mod Manager to download them and thats it. I've heard if you have oblivion downloaded in program files, it will cause the game to crash alot if you have the unoffical patches downloaded. And Steam is downloaded in my program files, so oblivion would be as well. I'm not sure what to do next, and i'm not sure how to reinstall out of program files since Steam is already installed into program files. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

I've heard that its a sort of "nessessary" thing to have, is it just not needed on the steam verison? Becuase they might have been saying that about the original verison

Nexus Mod manager is beta and not recommend (nexusmod website says so) for most Oblivion mods, especially the old ones like exactly the ones you have used. Clear your game files (if to chaotic to find the fitting files delete complete game and delete all relics at your steam folder/Oblivion folder in order to download again) and insert files manually or with this OMMB/wrye bash combination.

Manually is easy, simply unpack files into folder Data (steam->steamapps->common->oblivion->data. ^^

And it is a good idea to update the last patches. They fix round about 2500 (!!) bugs/errors. Some are important depending at class/playstyle you prefer.

Edit: After update rightclick in steam menu oblivion, click properties then game files and make a file verification. Sometimes after update 1 file of Oblivion is corrupted.

So your saying I should reinstall the game and then manually put the patches into the data folder?

Yes, it is the save way. Ok, in my opinion ;)

Should I reinstall oblivion to a place other than program files or do you think it will matter?
Ant Ra Dec 31, 2015 @ 6:15pm
Hope it will run now (should be) ^^

To read all the descriptions at nexusmods.com for oblivion mods/patches is not a mistake. There are different file systems in use for different mods and unlucky there are really a lot of mods. And a lot arn´t compatible to each other. It is like a modular construction system. Some are "Lego", some are "Fisher price" :D

So, choose wisely after reading ;)

But the ones you have are not with problems.

Funny enough, I re-installed the game and Im looking in my Data folder and see that the Unofficial patches are already in the Data folder, so looks like I dont even have to bother!

Hm, not good. Hope it works. Because the patch was set with NMM and that utility is a little bit obsolet for oblivion. To regedit it would be a terrifying thing.

If it doesn´t work you should ask at nexus forum for help. There are some really competent mod progamers that could help you with high precision.

Hey

Don't listen to this and do not install mods manually. Use Oblivion Mod Manager. Nexus Mod Manager is really bad for this game. You should not ever use it, unless you want your game to crash all the time.

Also I will add that I had UOP installed and besides that other mods and I did not have any problems at all. The Difference is I used Oblivion Mod Manager and not NMM...

Actually, I manually installed the Unofficial oblivion patch and shivering isles patch into my Data folder, and the game works fine, no crashes. But when I try to impilment the Unofficial DLC patches for some reason they cause the game to crash. But im not too worryed about the Unofficial DLC patches, im just happy i have the main ones.

That is why there is something called load order of mods. Obvoiously it does not exist when you just copy files to game folder.
Ant Ra Jan 5, 2016 @ 11:59pm
Yes, more mods in data folder needs a load order. But this update stuff isn´t suggested to work like a mod. DLC patch maybe, because it is coming with some new textures.

The simple "ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated" file as .exe file can help, copied into data subfolder.

And of course, omm/wyre bash are the choice if one want to have different (many different) Oblivion mods. Btw. as i wrote before :-p
