The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

I have a problem saving and loading the game
Every time I save the game it says it's saved, and when I go to see my save it's not there.

OK - you don't use Steam cloud saving and OneDrive. What exactly do you do and what exactly do you see? "Didn't work" doesn't tell me anything.

In particular,
- What does my games\oblivion\saves contain? If empty, start a new game, otherwise load one of the savegames.
- In both cases, save the new or loaded game again (as a new savegame), Then go to Load. Do you see the new savegame? If no, what do you see? If yes, load it. Does it work.

This kind of information is essential for finding out what's going on on your PC (and their may be more questions, once you give your answers).
In the oath file located at Documants/my game/oblivion there is a file named save that contains something called steam_autocloud

Sorry, I have had some home issues. Looks like you have had a lot of help though so I won't double up on the answers given.

You have not said if this is an issue which has occurred suddenly after playing for a while or if you have just started playing a new character. Nor have you said if you are using mods. This information would be really helpful.

It sounds like the saves folder is in the correct location, you are not using one drive and the cloud is disabled?

I suggest; If this is a new character which is giving you issues then try starting another new character. It does not matter what it looks like and you do not need to play it. Call it something simple JACK or anything you like, but, take care that you type only letters without spaces and do not accidentally use the tab or any other non visual or special key. Save this "Jack" character and as soon as you arrive in the cell save the game. Now, see if the "Jack" character's save is visible and if you can load it. Accidental tabs and other odd characters in the chosen play name are known to cause issues with this game so it would be good to eliminate this cause.
The problem arises from the beginning of the game. I created a new character and named him WW, and when I save the game, it looks like the game has been saved. When I go to load to see the save, the load section is empty, and I haven't even progressed in the game for an hour.
"I found it, but I don't know what to do with it. Should I move it to the game files or what?"

I have installed the game on win me, 7, 10 and 11. the 2006 game writes save files to folder
Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves

where is yours saving to?
Why can't you answer questions? Why say you have a mod without saying which mod it is (and whether or not it is the ooly one)?
Do you expect help or not?

Edit: I saw your last post only now. What makes you think saving has worked? And again: What exactly do you do, and what exactly do you see? Have you followed any advice given by several posters (except possibly uninstalling OneDrive - are you sure you were successful?)?

So, have you tried making another character as I suggested? The problem you describe indicates a problem with the Name of your character. We need to eliminate that possibility.

In fact, saving has not worked yet, and what should I do regarding your fluids? (The first time I open the Oblivion launcher I see two messages, the first:(Oblivion will now detect your video hardware and set video options accordingly.)Click Ok and the second message appears(Video hardware unrecognized. Video quality settings defaulting to Medium Quality.), Then i click on the play icon without doing anything in the settings. Just enter the game. Create a new character and give it a natural name, for example (ww or Rakan), and start the game and try to save it. But nothing is saved)

Regarding the question: What do I see (literally, I do not see anything suspicious, except for the game settings in the launcher, I cannot change anything in it, neither display assistance nor quality)

Regarding whether I followed any advice (in reality, not just the words that are here) and regarding The OneDrive (I deleted it permanently in order to be sure. I go to the control panel and search for it, but it is not there)

I created many characters but did not succeed

Is it possible that the mod is the cause of the problem?
Rakan 27. Juni 2024 um 0:21
I apologize for the late response, but I had a problem with the internet all this time
Better. Except that you still don't say which mod you use (may or may not be relevant).
"What you do and what you see" is exactly what it says (and the description in your last longer post is actually a good start). You do something (like click somewhere) and describe what you see (like a new window opens, a menu or a message appears, ...). No interpretations please - that you see "nothing suspicious" would be an interpretation.

With that said, your description seems to be incomplete. Perhaps it helps when I describe what I do and see when I launch Oblivion:

- When I click Play in Steam, a menu appears, where I can select Play, Data Files, Options, etc.

- You seem to have clicked Options. When I do this, a small window appears, titled "Oblivion:Options", and I can select / modify all kinds of graphics options. Is this where you can't do anything? Well, I can, so this is one difference, which might (or might not) give a clue).

- Now I go back to the previous menu and select either Play or Data Files (the latter to check or change my mod configuration). As you don't mention Data Files, I suppose you click Play, and this is what I do now, too.

- I see an intro sequence (I omit a few details here), then a loading screen, and finally I arrive at the Oblivion main menu, where I can start or load a game, but also change the options, and I suppose this is where you start a new game or try to find a game to load (please confirm).
Most importantly: Have you ever tried to change your options there? Even if changing graphical options on the Oblivion:Options screen doesn't work (I think I saw this in the past, too), changing them from the main menu should work (and if it doesn't work, does nothing work, or do some options work, others don't?).

- Now you create a new game and save it. Do you see a confirmation that saving was successful? If yes, I use ESC to get to the load menu, and have a look at the list of saved games. Have you done this, and did you see a saved game on the list? Is the one you just saved among them? If yes, have you tried to load it (the new one and/or others), and what happened?
If not, there must be something wrong with your installation.

I leave it at that for now, because the next steps depend very much on the information you provide about these first steps.
And never forget, all I know is from your descriptions - I don't have a crystal ball or telepathic skills. Try to put yourself in other people's shoes, read what you wrote, forget what you know but haven't written, and say honestly if you could help others based on the information you provided.

General advice:
- Verify your Oblivion installation in Steam.
- If this doesn't help remove Oblivion COMPLETELY from your PC (what this means is described in several threads on this forum), uninstalling it and deleting the Oblivion folder isn't enough. Make sure Steam cloud saving is disabled. Then reinstall Oblivion from scratch. Don't install anything else.
- Click Play in Steam (alternatively, try the OblivionLauncher.exe in the Oblivion folder), click Play in the Launcher menu (above Data Files).
- When you're in the main menu (New, Load, ...), set at least the resolution to what you want it to be (so that you can see comfortably on your monitor), but change as little as possible (for now). If this doesn't work, don't worry about saving and loading - you've got a more serious problem.
- Then start a new game, save it, and then try to load it again. If you don't see it, have a look at my games\oblivion\saves - there should be at least one file with the extension .ess.
- If you're successful, adjust all options to whatever you want. Continue playing, then save and try to load the new savegame again, etc. ...

If any of these steps doesn't work properly, there is something wrong. But what it means exactly, and what remedy action is appropriate, depends on the details.
oblivion released in 2006. does not recognize any hardware after 2006.
so messages "Oblivion will now detect your video hardware and set video options accordingly.)Click Ok and the second message appears(Video hardware unrecognized. Video quality settings defaulting to Medium Quality"
are normal. you can probably set graphics to ultra depending on your hardware.

game launcher writes your graphics settings to folder
Documents\My Games\Oblivion
should see files BlendSettings.ini Oblivion.ini RendererInfo.txt

if you have .ess files in your Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves folder
then the game is writing your saves.

still looks like a windows permission problem. game cannot read folder.
check antivirus log again. (some users have more than one AV running)

check windows security/controlled folder access. if on, add exceptions for the game launcher and game.

Well, regarding the mods used, I used OneTweak from Nexus Mods, but when I downloaded this mod, it was intended for the game Sakyrim, but it works on Oblivion, and I downloaded something called obse_0021. All of these mods I took from a clip on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xv1lmJ0UDQ). (Here is the link to the clip if you need it. This is about mods

- With regard to launching the game, when I go to the options and set the quality I want, I just press OK and go back to the options again to make sure that the options are confirmed, I am surprised that they do not change no matter what I do.

As for the file boxes, there are some DLC files, approximately ten files, all of which have a correct sign in front of them

This is all in the game launcher

Regarding the game, when I enter it, I go to the options menu and I can modify it from there, but when I modify the quality and display size, a message appears explaining to me that I must restart the game again in order for the modification to take place, but when I restart the game again, no change occurs in the quality. The screen display size, but other settings such as the control buttons can be changed

When I enter the load icon, I don't see anything saved there

-When I start a new game, I give a name for the character, such as “WW.” Immediately after that, I save the game. An icon appears above the left side of the screen, indicating that the game has been saved successfully. When I go to see the save in the load, it is empty and there are no saves in it.

I will delete all data related to Oblivion from my device and re-download it without downloading any mod and turning off steam cloud.
- To be more precise, how to disable cloud storage is by clicking on Steam/cloud/Enable steam cloud, making it Off. Is this correct??
Ursprünglich geschrieben von Rakan:
... clicking on Steam/cloud/Enable steam cloud, making it Off. Is this correct??
Yes (it's Steam/Settings/Cloud..., to be precise).

The most interesting part is that you appear to be doing something successfully (like changing options and saving), but when you restart or try to load, your changes and saved games have disappeared again. Steam cloud saving might be a reason (I can't say for sure, because I don't use it myself).
To be honest, I thought you had cloud saving disabled - it was suggested to turn it off already. Please bear in mind that wrong, misleading or incomplete information is the best recipe for not getting meaningful and useful help.

Based on your last post, I'd NOT uninstall Oblivion right now, but try again with cloud saving disabled (create a new game and save it, ...). If this doesn't change anything, you can still un-/reinstall (if you do, please make sure that you remove everything, not just the Oblivion folder in your Steam library).

It's difficult for me to judge the mods you mentioned. I don't know the Skyrim mod, and whether or not to use a Skyrim mod for Oblivion could cause your problems, I can't say (it's a risk, but why not try - if it works, it's ok). OBSE is a powerful tool, but only in conjunction with other mods requiring it.
General recommendation: Don't use mods when you don't know what they do. Every mod bears the risk to create problems, and the more mods you use, the higher the risk - not least because not all mods work together well (and incompatibilities are often, but not always mentioned in mod descriptions). But it's up to you.
