The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Oblivion Freezing on Startup?
As the title suggests, it's my first time modding Oblivion and I only have one mod installed. for some reason the game Freezes just before the title shows up. It plays the beginning credits, but that's it. No music, no animation, not a single thing. It freezes and makes it to where I have to restart my computer to simply close the game. If it helps I'm using the Oblivion Mod Manager and LOOT, with LOOT saying that there's 2 "Dirty Files", but I'm stumped on what to do from here.

Update:
I tried uninstalling all the mods and the game itself to see if that would work. It no longer freezes, but now crashes before character creation. and now with no mods it still does this. Please tell me I didn't just permanently screw myself over.

Which mod? Make any ini changes?

The Midas Magic of Aurum mod, and no I haven't made any ini changes as far as I'm aware.
Sounds like an ini issue for sure. Just delete your settings.ini in your saves folder in "My Documents". It'll create a fresh one when you run the launcher again. Mods that alter the ini usually involve archive invalidation or other special attention to installation process. Also, when you uninstall Oblivion via Steam you need to manually go to the folder it was in and delete what's left. Steam will not uninstall obscure folders and files left from a mod.

I don't use Midas, but I do use about 70 mods total including some huge overhauls. I can say, from having tested Midas, that it's a very large and complex mod to be your first foray into Oblivion mods. You should start smaller, with things that are only a .esp or maybe some textures. This game is tempermental and can take some trial and error to get it modded and stable.

After you've for sure fully deleted Oblivions files from wherever they were installed to, and after you've deleted your .ini, if the game still won't launch then your computer is almost certainly attempting to run the game without your GPU. Pretty normal in laptops, and sometimes a thing on desktops.

I managed to get Oblivion running again and I've just installed Wrye Bash instead of OMM, is there a mod you would suggest installing for someone's first time modding their game?

Depends on what you're looking for. I can recommend a good vampire mod, Unholy Darkness, a good race mod xenius race compilation, and a good clothing set for female characters, HGEC LethalMajesty. Also recommend Oblivion character overhaul 2.

That depends entirely on what you're trying to change. You should play the game vanilla some first to have an idea of what sort of things you'd like to mod. As for graphical mods, I use quite a few. The standouts are the OUT textures, OCO v2, the Unique Environments Comp, and Armamentarium.
