Only partly kidding. Not much to know, like Skyrim you can go in blind and should be all right.
Two handed weapons are, with a handful of exceptions, garbage.
Magic is much, MUCH more complex and flexible than Skyrim, and basically any character wants to use at least one type of magic.
There's no sprinting, and you're probably slow af at first, but you become a psychotically fast lunatic by "late game".
You can't manually shield bash, that's a chance-to-activate perk later.
There's no perk tree, you get skill perks at 25, 50, 75, and 100 in a skill.
Shield spells won't bankrupt your magic bar, and they actually help.
20 armor rating means you take 20% less physical damage. caps at 85 for 85% reduction.
Bretons are 50% resistant to magic and basically dwarf every other race in the game.
Oblivion is an actual RPG with some action, Skyrim is an action game with some RPG sprinkled in.
You will probably die to the first Wraith and Will-o-Wisp you see, that's normal.
As a first time player, go vanilla. It will run without major issue.
if you want to wreck your brain and enjoy 3000 hours of gameplay get morrowind
It may take awhile, but maxing out luck is the only way to get most skills above 100.
The game lets you do it, ok, but to give this advice to a new player?
What is "max level", and why would someone want to reach it (again, except for purely personal reasons)? Not that I would recommend to make any of these 3 skills major, but for very different reasons.
My advice for new players is to play the unmodded game initially, to choose a default class of your liking, to complete the tutorial dungeon, and then to go out and have a look - a lot of adventure is waiting right outside the exit. Familiarise yourself with the game, then make up your mind what you like and don't like, and how you can improve the things you don't like - it's very likely that there are ways to achieve it.
It will auto save enter and exiting interior to exterior, but not within interior cells, so always save in new dungeon cells.
