Active Inventory spell allows you to access the inventory of followers and give them weapons, armour and scrolls. If you transfer summon scrolls to a followers inventory they will use them when you encounter an enemy. I spent a long time with the Jemane Brothers as followers because I never took them back to Weatherleah so I could command them to follow and wait on hundreds of quests. They got me out of some very tough situations until I released them from servitude and took them to Weatherleah.

It's great for very dangerous areas but the downside is followers don't seem to have a distinction between enemy types so will automatically use a summon scroll as soon as they detect an enemy. Suddenly I have two Frost Atronachs to take care of a mudcrab.
