The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Pink water?
This computer has problems with some games. I have a crappy graphics card but this game runs. I just found out how to fix a problem where the game would crash leaving the sewers, I had to turn off the water shader in the oblivion.ini

Now I am having a weird glitch where the water is all pink. Is that caused by turning off the shaders? I can't load up anything outside the sewers with them on, I've tried. So do I need to resign myself to playing oblivion with neaon pink water or is there a way to fix it?

Make sure HDR is disabled and Bloom enabled. I'd also try running it without Bloom as well.

I had HDR disabled already so I disabled bloom. I still have pink water though.

Yeah, but did you restore the setting that you changed in the ini file?
If something is pink in game it indicates that textures are missing. Delete the .ini in My Games>Oblivion. Then verify game cache and start the game and the Oblivion.ini will be regenerated. Before you mess around again make a back up copy of your Data folder and the Oblivion.ini. So you always have a fail safe you can revert back to.

I did everything you said, vrified my cache , deleted the ini, backed up my data folder and such. But the water is still pink. >.<
If all else fails backup your game saves and delete Oblivion completely. Then try a fresh install.

It is a fresh install. I just installed it the other day. No mods or anything. >.<

Did you install the other day after this pink water issue occured, or before? Because he's asking you to simply delete everything and then reinstall in the hopes that it will fix the issue, which I doubt it will, but at this point you've gone through most of the stuff you can do.

Simple way to delete the game would be to right click on it's entry in the steam library and then delete local files, afterwards install it and then see if the issue persists... if it does I'm not sure what else you can do, your graphics card might not be able to render the water no matter what, and since the only way you can get it to not crash is to keep the water shader off, I'm pretty sure you'd be stuck with pink water if the reinstall doesn't work.

I'm pretty sure it's the graphics card. Oh well, I'll just have to live with pink water. I'm just lucky the game runs at all. This is a really BAD card after all and I am saving every little bit of cash I can to replace it.

I never recommend Oldblivion because all it is is a shader hack to trick the game into running on certain older cards... but this might actually be a case where it's worth trying. You'll have to google oldblivion it to find it though. Most cards from the last 5-6 years should handle the game tbh.

Thanks, I'll give it a look.

Sound's like missing texture's too me? BUT having said that, water in oblivion is a REFLECTIVE item, so maybe... this has something to do with the sky not reflecting properly? after switching off shader's? Its only a thought tho, as most item's in game have a single texture, and do not have to reflect items around them! unlike the water, I would guess it has to handle multi-texture's. So maybe you could search that up? this is a very strange game when you start modding it! I once had a ctd prob that took 4 wks to suss, it was crashing randomly in different areas of Oblivion, Normally a crash is waiting to happen if you have missing meshes, and it will crash when you enter, or fast travel to the area they are missing from, but missing textures do tend to be a pinky purple colour, and game will still run. Mine was random all over Tamriel, in the end it turned out to be a NPC from a traveler mod, who just happened to have no HEAD! hence the randomness as he was traveling around!! when I entered his area, CTD. If your card is that old it may not be able to handle it? I would try no Bloom or HDR and turn off anti alias, and anthrasopic too see what happens? check fps too.
