Training Limit
The trainer limit of x5 kinda ruins oblivion imo. It does not work well with the efficient levelling system. In morrowind you could just train the relevant minors 30 times via npcs...then go out an enjoy the game with your majors build how you want to play.

Anyone else prefer morrowind in this regard? Dont get me wrong oblivion has added some neat new features that morrowind didnt have...but this trainer limit really does ruin the game if you want to role play your major build and get +5 every time at level up for three attributes

I agree. The mechanic does press you into a difficult situation, and Morrowind was more flexible and more enjoyable in this regard. I believe that there are some mods out there that rectify this and implement the Morrowind training system in Oblivion, although I've never really used them as I've had little incentive a use trainers in Oblivion, (probably due to the existing system). While I wouldn't go as far as saying that it ruins the game, for the scenario you're expressing, it can make the game more tedious...

What i mean is take strength for example....blunt/blade/hand to hand. Lets say i make blunt a major then i need 10 in total from those three skills. Now unless im planning on getting 10 blunt skill ups in majors (which is totally unrealistic due to other skills in majors like heavy armor or block for example) this forces me to use blade or hand to hand a few times which completely destroys the role play element.

The other option would be to place all 3 weapon skills in minors including your armor of choice...rendering your majors a selection of crappy skills you hardly ever use, and giving all your best skills a -20 drop at the start of the game.

The long and short of it is that to enjoy vanilla oblivion from a role playing aspect but get your efficient levelling too tyen realistically you have to put ALL of your best skills in minors which makes them start gimped, and then level up with crappy skills in majors that you rarely use, which makes levelling up slower, unless you use something like alchemy for example but standing in town spamming potions is not my idea of fun levelling up.

Whoevers idea it was to impose the training limit was a very very bad idea. The fact i cant play this as a pure melee warrior for example and still do my efficient levelling (like in morrowind) sucks....

Morrowind was perfect. It allowed you to pick whatever majors you wanted but also gave you a way to easily get your +5s with minimal effort in town which reduced the tedium to just paying trainers a bunch of times which is ok

I may end up switching to pc version if there are ways to counter this...because atm its really ruining the experience for me to have to carry both a sword and blunt and both light/heavy armor around with me. Another thing too...if you put armorer as a major you can only level when your armor is damaged rather than an instant action...and at higher levels your armor will degrade slower...so this deters you from putting armorer as a major

So yeah is there a way to implement morrowinds system into this? Really all i want is no limit on npc training thats all. Then i could just pick my majors that i use a lot

There is a trick that I sometimes use for training.

Once you gain 10 skills in your major skills and you get the message that says to rest, from that moment on any skills that level up no longer count towards your current level and start counting for the next level reguardless of leveling up.

So before resting to gain a level, what I do is buy training after you get the message to rest, but before sleeping. That way those training sessions count for the next level, so after you go to sleep and level up, you can buy 5 training sessions a second time.

By doing that you can buy 10 training sessions back to back allowing you to use training twice during the same level. This trick can be useful if you want to train a specific skill that is difficult to level up quickly. Skills like Marksman, Mercantile, Restoration, or one of your weapon skills.

That trick can only be used every other level though, but it does have its uses.

It has been a while since I played Oblivion, but if I recall correctly In the PC version, you can use Wrye Bash to increase the amount of training sessions when creating a batched patch.

The easiest way to level armorer skill is to go to the Shivering Isles and find the Amulet of Disintegration which can be found in Milchar. I usually do that right away to level up armorer quickly so I can repair magical items and repair my armor to 125%.

The Amulet will destroy your weapon and armor, so you can repair them then destroy them over and over again. This allows you to rapidly level up your armorer skill at any skill level.

Oh...thats a massive help...cause now i can use the training on either sword or h2h instead of armorer. Armorer is still a faurly slow skill to raise though imo

Btw this amulet...its not bound to you and can equip/unequip freely? (Unlike the staff of everscamp)

Yes it is unequippable.

It is easiest if you bind it to one of the number keys so you can equip and unequip it by pressing the bind, because the amulet only destroys one item at a time. You have to equip it multiple times to destroy all the equipment you are wearing because the slot chosen is random.

But dont forget to unbind it as it could happen in combat. :p

Also, in the PC version, if you get the Realistic Leveling mod (which I highly recommend), one of the options allows you to set the training limit per level to 100 - which effectively guarantees limitless trainings because there is no skill that you can raise 100 times without causing you to level up in Realistic Leveling (since minor skills also contribute to leveling up, though the amount of "level exp" you gain per skill gain does depend on the level of the skill itself, and the amount of exp needed to level up increases as you gain them, so you'll never truly run into a situation where you're too weak to fight enemies your level unless you're TRYING to achieve that)

Biggest pain with the training is that there are certain trainers who live outdoors and can die in random encounters, possibly before you even meet them. The Marksman and Destruction trainers both have that problem, and those are two skills that are incredibly tedious to max out. (I think UOP makes them essential until you finish the training sidequest.)
It would be nice if they just let you train as much as you want, since you usually have lots of money by the end of the game, and not much else to do with it.

If a trainer can die in random encounters before I even meet them that's just ridiculous. Thankfully I have other ways of raising Agility and Willpower quickly without the need of trainers. Tbh since destruction is one of my majors I don't mind it being slower to level up (but it doesn't seem slow tbh). Tbh I think most skills prob seem tedious at higher levels. When I first start selling things mercantile raises very fast (as in around 14-15 levels before I even level up main character) then drops off and gets tedious once you hit apprenctice level. It's probably the same for all skills that get higher I'd imagine

I think the only magic school that's really a pain to level up is Restoration, mostly due to the fact that it seems to have THE lowest exp gain per action of them all.

I think the only skill harder to level up is Athletics.
