I can't exit the sewers, please help!

When I get to the part where the game asks me if I want to change my race, class and birth sign and I say I want to exit the sewers, the game tells me "You cannot go this way. Turn back". For a moment I can see the outside but because of the message I return to the sewers. I tried to teleport me outside using the console but it didn't work, the same message appeared. And also, I heard of someone who had this problem as well but in the XBOX 360 version, so I don't think the problem is in my PC. I use the GOTY deluxe version. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

Go to your Oblivion ini file (a file with a little picture of a cogwheel on it in your data files) and turn off your borders (type bEnableBorderRegion=0) and see if that works.

Problem solved! A mod was causing it, so after removing it I could finally exit the sewers :)

The problem still exists in the remaster. I can't exit and I don't have any mods

I found if you don't pickup Renaults katana and keep it in your inventory otherwise the guards all die then there's no conversation to pick you class and your boned

Keeping the katana in your inventory seemed to work for me (I was trying to hide it so I could keep it for later) and the whole game bugged out on me for trying this
