The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

X-ray Aug 12, 2016 @ 8:35pm
Shuts down when I hit "Play"
When I hit "play" on the launcher, the launcher shuts down and then nothing happens. If I try to run the game directly from my files it says
"Oblivion.Exe-Bad Image
C:/Windows/System/d3dx9_27.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error......" and yadda yadda.
Someone please help, I'll put a smiley face at the end. :)

hey it did this to me too when i bought it. You need to right click and hit troubleshoot compatiblity and set it to run with the Windows XP resourse pack. I did that now there's no problem running it.

I just tried that, it didn't do anything. Is it Xp recourse pack 2 or 3?

Go to the steamapps\common\Oblivion\Data\Video and delete those crappy videos :-

2k games.bik
bethesda softworks HD720p.bik
game studios.bik
Oblivion iv logo.bik
Oblivion Legal.bik

My game used to crash at the startup because of the stupid video that plays at the start. After I deleted it all is well now.

You need to re-install directx, but you need to delete the d3dx9_27.dll files, these are found in C:\windows\System32 & c:\windows\SysWOW64. (you can also just 'search' for them and delete that way)I suppose you can verify the files and it may download them, or you can download directx9 from microsoft.

The source[webcache.googleusercontent.com] if you want to read it

HyPNOS, I went to the website but it said I can't download DX9 because I'm running Windows 10. How would you suggest I load it?

Solved! Upon researching the topic I found a very helpful link that solved the problem. I hope this helps anyone else who has this problem in the future.
