Is it possible to go back to oblivion after you beat the main story questline?

Outside of console commands? No. All oblivion gates close upon finishing the main quest.

Even though it fits the plot.. It'd still be nice to be able to go back

If you own the Frostcrag Spire DLC, use the mod AFK Frostcrag.

It adds a way to open an Oblivion Gate that can be used after the main quest, that way you can re-enter Oblivion.

You liked the gates of Oblivion? Those things dragged on forever. Took me 30 mins to an hour to close a single gate.

Depends on which world you got and whether you care about leveling or loot... and if you have OCDs like me.

For those sneak running types, you can just run straight to the sigil stone because the daedra kills you.

Not so much the gates themselves as the loot you can find within oblivion.
