Bravil Mages Guild bug

I can't seem to get the recommendation quest to update in my journal. I've already done the dreamworld quest. And when I speak to the Argonian leader at the Bravil Mages Guild, she talks about that girl (can't remember her name) and sugests that I talk to that Varon guy. My journal does not update to show the quest. And even if I go talk to Varon about the girl, he claims he didn't hurt her. Nothing updates in my journal and if I go back and talk to the Argonian again, I get the same conversation tree again and nothing updates.
I know this is a common bug and the suggested fix is to wait 24 hours and talk to her again, but that has not helped. Any other suggestions?

You have to use the scroll of beguile that Kud Ei gives you on Varon so he likes you more. Then he will tell you more and your quest should update.

You can also use the speechcraft mini game to raise his disposition. You might want to save your game first.

She did not give me a scroll, I guess I will have to find one somewhere.

Additionally, it appears that the Leyawiin recommendation quest is bugged as well. I returned to Dagail with the amulet, but there was no conversation path to complete the quest. Recommendation or seeing stone were not available topics in the conversation tree. Ugh!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up using the console to finish those quests. Not terribly satisfying, but it seemed like the only way forward. Hopefully there won't be too many bugged quests like that.Thanks again!
