The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV; Oblivion - Blank Screen
I wanted to get back into Oblivion, and I downloaded all the unnoficial patches. I started a new game and there's a blank screen. The UI still works but there are no textures.I've searched this matter online but there are no solutions that I know of, I changed the setting from HDR to Bloom, I set the graphics to Medium, and I tried using windowed mode. If anyone has any clue on this matter let me know, I am thinking it's the new Windows 10 Aniversary Update doing this. I played Oblivion on the older version of Windows 10 and it worked just fine.

Here are my specs to rule out my PC not being able to handle it.

Intel Core i7-4790K
16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti SC
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 SSC (PhysX)

I do not have Win10 on my home PC but I have heard that OneDrive can interfere with games. You may want to disable it.

I don't much like Windows 10, If I had a copy of windows 7 i'd be going there right now. Oblivion isn't the only game going down the toilet of time either. Microsofts claims that old games will still work is a half truth or not a truth at all.

The recent graphics drivers for newer cards has broken Oblivion's ability to detect the card's shader capabilities, so it falls back on an older model, causing the blue-gray blank screen. There are a few work-arounds, but even with it, shadows still don't work properly. It's sorta up to either Bethesda or Nvidia to get a proper fix for it.

Revert back to driver 368.81 and it should fix your problem. 372.54 and 372.70 both broke Oblivion.

I'll keep that driver in mind, I'm going to wait a bit and see if either one wants to fix it. It's a 10 year old game but I and many others like it, so hopefully someone will make a fix or even an official patch. Thanks for taking time to help me and others looking for a fix.

Same. I'm not going to revert back to old drivers everytime I want to play this game so either I'm going to have to have a windows installation soley for oblivion with older drivers or just play the inferior 360 version I have laying around...

Hello again, I decided to test a few drivery just for the hell of it. The last driver that works for Oblivion is 368.81, this is for me and may be different for other cardsor builds.I went to NVIDIA's site and went to drivers, I then put in my OS, card series, and then the card name itself. I recommend starting from the top and going down but it's up to you how you go about testing each driver version.

Alright so I can confirm that this does in fact work. I installed 368.81 and everything seems to be back to normal. My RenderInfo.txt is even reporting the proper shader package and everything. Thank you.

No Problem, I hope word get's out about this. I hope this works for all NVIDIA cards, PCGamingWiki states that NVIDIA GeForce 8800 and above are effected by this. I recommend everyone get all the unofficial Oblivion Patches, as they fix thousends of bugs and glitches present in the latest official patch. If there are any other questions please feel free to comment and I will answer to the best of my knolege.

I just sincerely hope this is fixed sooner than later because I really do not want to have to stick with older drivers just to play this game.

Only time will tell, but if your cards drivers came out within the 2 year mark from now you won't have to worry about sticking with older drivers. cards that are in the legacy tab are fully supported and errors will not occur. This driver that is being used by us will be solid with new games for a long time, or at least until new games use some new type of shaders or rendering.

Anotehr trick you can do to get around the blank screen is to just turn off HDR, and use Bloom. Though a recent graphics driver fix seems to have fixed this and I can use HDR again

I'm a no-compromises kinda guy, I shouldn't have to do that just to play a game. If nothing works then just go to the 360 version I suppose.
