error 52.0000 is the exact error msg? on screen? windows event viewer?
After that close the settings. DO NOT LAUNCH FROM STEAM. Go into the folder (this depends on where you saved it.... C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion ... once there right click The oblivion launcher an go to properties, then go to the compatibility tab and click run in compatibility mode for Windows XP (service pack 3) and apply. ... also go into properties for the oblivion application that just says Oblivion and go to compatibility and set it to windows 7.
ONCE YOU HAVE TAKEN THESE STEPS, ALWAYS OPEN FROM THE OblivionLauncher in the folder, not from steam..
Let me know if this works for anyone else please!! hope it helped... after i launched it the first time i closed out and updated graphic options to my resolution and ultra settings.
If you have ever had this game installed on your PC previously you need to ensure that it has been completely removed. You may have an old mods folder left behind. Move any old saves to a different folder or delete them if you don't want to try to use them.
Then Try this-
Disable any mods if you have any installed.
Turn off Cloud storage if used.
Locate the Oblivion Documents folder.
Delete: BlendSettings, Oblivion and RendererInfo configuration files from the Documents folder.
Start the game and save.
Exit.
You can now turn cloud back on if you wish, and, enable your mods if any.
You will need to reset your screen resolution using the Option on the Launcher window.
This usually fixes this problem.
OR it cannot write the files
OR it wrote the files and something moved them.
game launcher takes your options and together with your graphics card driver, writes the settings to those files mentioned above.
check antivirus log AGAIN. might be blocking the game launcher and/or the game.
check windows security/controlled folder access. if on add exceptions.
windows one drive MOVES the files out of the documents folder. so the game has nothing to read. either turn one drive OFF or add exception to leave the ini files where they are. the 2006 game does NOT read one drive folders.
might also be your graphics card driver. use a utility like DDU and delete it. reboot.
CLEAN install the latest driver. reboot. steam verify game files then try the game launcher again and see if the .ini files are created.
go to the steam game folder then the directx folder and run dxsetup with admin permission.
maybe the old libraries did not get installed.
check windows event viewer and also windows reliability history. might be a game crash event or system related errors.
could also check your windows system files. open a command window with admin permission and run
sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Muchas gracias, funcionó tu ayuda
The whacky part is that when I launch the game and select Data Files, I see ALL the non-mod content is unchecked. Not just Oblivion.esm but ALL of the game files and DLC packs are unselected. So, for example DLCBattlehornCastle.esp is unchecked but DLCBattlehornCastle - Unofficial Patch is checked.
I know from both experience and the description that the regular DLC esp file needs to be enabled as a master file to its patched version. But when I click "OK" with the options I want and open the Data Files back up, they are all reset to this strange configuration. As a result the game crashes within the first second of the Bethesda splash screen. What the hell is going on here?
perhaps get the vanilla game running FIRST
then add DLC and get that running
then add ONE patch and get that running, etc
So far have tried:
- Moving the game to C: drive
- Disabling multi-monitor in windows
- Setting Oblivion.exe to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP and Windows Vista
- Running Oblivion.exe as administrator
- Disabling steam and discord overlay
- Looking for mpeg2dmx.ax on my System32 directory to see if it was the culprit (it wasn't, no such file was present)
- Sacrificing a chicken to Baal
- Praying to Todd Howard that if he makes it work I'll rebuy Skyrim again
At this point, I'm approaching the conclusion that some Windows 10 update in the last 2 years since I played it (on the same computer, mind you) has broken compatibility with Oblivion, which would be a huge shame. I am 100% game for eating my shoe if proven wrong though, I'd just like to get it working again.
