Oblivion Won't Launch

Just re-downloaded oblivion and every time I try and start the game it doesn't get to the launch menu. I tried going into the game files to start it but I can't get past the launcher. Any help would be appreciated.

I am having the same issue. The game worked great the first day I installed it, but after that, no luck. I lost count how many times I have completely removed and re-installed the game and I cannot get past the launcher. Steam offers no help other than contact Bethesda. Couldn't even get a refund because I had already played over 2hrs before it broke. I have been scouring over these discussion threads trying every fix someone offers, but have yet to find one that works. Hope you have better luck than I.

Having this problem as well, it's a clean install with no modifications and yet it always crashes on startup. I have no idea what could be causing it.

I'm using windows 11 since christmas. game has been working. I also ran the game on win me when it came out, win 7 and win 10.

try steam verify game files.

neither steam nor the game installer nor the game nor any mods make any changes to windows security.

check antivirus log? might be blocking game/game launcher.
check windows security/controlled folder access. if on add exceptions for game launcher/game.

game launcher needs to create folder
Documents\My Games\Oblivion
folder should contain files BlendSettings.ini Oblivion.ini RendererInfo.txt
and after game starts your saves folder.

if these files are missing also besides no saves
running windows one drive? one drive moves the ini files to the one drive.
modify one drive to exclude the Oblivion folder

mods? mods cause all kinds of issues. uninstalling mods does NOT remove files that the mod creates/modifies when the game runs.

might be missing some old libraries that the game needs and may have failed to install.
go to folder
...\steam\steam\apps\common\oblivion\directx
and run dxsetup.exe with admin permission. use repair option if there is one.

run game from game folder .exe and NOT from your steam library or an icon. sometimes an error msg appears not hidden by steam.

I was able to find a pretty simple fix, just go to \My Games\Oblivion and delete your Oblivion.ini, with any luck it should run normally after that.

im also having the same problems listed above. have tried nearly everything cant get it to launch past the start up menu from steamapps. game worked fine for about a week, now it wont play at all.

so if game worked fine and now does not, looks like something changed on your pc.

check antivirus log? new definition file may be blocking the game.

windows or graphics card driver update?

install a new app/program/overlay?

does not work means what? you cannot load your previous save, cannot start a new game, cannot load any save?

game still works on my pc even after windows monthly patch and an nvidia driver update.

The previous last post was January of last year. If the poster has not fixed the problem by now (11.5 months) then he has, most certainly given up trying. If this were not the case, I would leave a complete solution.

Go into Task Manager, and make sure to stop anything that has HP in the title, even in the background. Then put it in windowed mode. The Tech Support doc you can access from the start up menu says that it has an issue running if there are anything with HP in the title active on the computer. I tried deleting old files, everything here, and nothing worked until I saw one minor HP background task. Still shut down early when I tried to launch it in fullscreen, still have no idea why. Moved it back to windowed and it works fine. It's a solution if youre okay with playing in windowed mode.

im trying to relive my glory days and play oblivion can u help me out? i sent a friend request but its a fresh install and ive done everything in this post and more trying to get the game to launch...

fresh install only the launcher works cannot launch from steam get a error 52.0000 when i launch launcher it appears to work until i hit start then same error

i made steam in compatiblity mode for fallout newvegas and it works now it had the same error so im not understanding why oblivion isnt working also
