Have you downloaded Nordic UI onto the steam deck to try it on this game though? Most of the mods work mainly for windows and steam deck operates using Linux.
So, I guess it's frustrating, but Bethesda obviously couldn't support gamepads in windows when that wasn't even a thing when the game came out.
We can always hope they'll remaster the game at some point.
Thing is, it wouldn't take but one guy at Bethesda a few days, at most, to implement controller support (or even just steal a mod for implementation). Fallout 3 came out 1-2 years later with controller support, and the original Xbox as well as 360 were designed to essentially be easy to port from and to pc. With the advent of game pass and the steam deck, both morrowind and oblivion have been in critical need for controller support. It would be a win, win, and win if they did it (free boost in sales, positive customer relations, quintessential for current gaming climate, and something for gamers to play while waiting for StarRim).
and Bethesda is far far too lazy for remasters, as they have already admitted for Morrowind. But I digress. I m just miffed cause this game should only be ranked playable not verified.
Have you tried it? I only ask because this is one of the games I would love to get once my Steam Deck gets here but it would have to have "native-like" gamepad support for me to even consider it.
Well, the very least you could do is send a support ticket about relabeling it. Much more practical than emailing Gabe directly.
True, it's more practical but a small part of me has hope that reaching out to somebody will wake them up to how vital it is for 2 of Bethesda's most critically acclaimed games to have controller support.
As it stands, Microsoft Game Pass has no controller support for Morrowind or Bethesda (Which is ironic considering Bethesda is now OWNED and a subsidiary of Microsoft). This extends to Steam Deck which also has no controller support.
A lot of people I know who grew up playing these games on Xbox Original and Xbox 360 (Some on PS3 for Oblivion) straight up refuse to play the Steam versions due to lack of controller support so it's not like this is a one-off thing. It seems every other week for the better part of 16 years people have been asking about controller support for this, working on creating mods for controller support, but 90% of the fixes don't add the highlight feature that every other bethesda game has when you're in menus or choosing dialogue options.
It's just weird because it's not uncommon for games to be given controller support retroactively. EA has done this with half a dozen titles, as has RWS with Postal 2 which is a game that released in the year 2002.
This is the perfect game to get back into on the Deck, I wish Valve stepped in here with a hotfix. There has to be a way to integrate the controller support from the Xbox 360's game files, which Beth ofc has access to. Oblivion gets no love in general, and could use some support on PC. Controller/Deck support though; this is the bare minimum.
