Original Retail version plus Steam version DLCs?
I really don't want to buy Oblivion all over again, but I can grin and bear it since it's impossible to find the DLC through any other legit channel.

What I DON'T want to do is have to redo all my mods and save games from having to install everything via Steam.

Is there ANY way to get Oblivion DLC via Steam and install them to a Retail disc version? Please tell me there is. Thanks!

in theory, i don't see why you can't drop the DLC content, namely the .esp's (or .esm's as the case may be) from where you download the steam version into your disc install

should more or less 'just werk'

That should indeed work fine, though you may have to manually patch the disc installation to the latest version first (assuming it isn't on 1.2.0416 already):

Oblivion's DLCs are activated through the same plugin system used for your mods, so all you need to do is copy them from one Data folder to the other and use your mod manager to activate them.

I do recommend backing up your load order files (in AppData\Local\Oblivion) before installing the Steam release, though. Odds are the two versions will want to store configs in the same location.

Your saved games will still be there in the "My Documents" as usual. I just started up again after not playing since 2012. Ovlivion modding is still very active, so I just started over with Mod Organizer and Bevilex's mod list on Nexus: ( https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47591/).
plus some of my old ones. No problems with my old save files and my level 30 character. Use BOSS for load order. Oblivion on a more modern machine with the graphics mods available is very playable.

So, say I got Oblivion GOTY from Steam. it downloads, installs, etc. All I would need to do is move the esp/esm files to my current Oblivion install directory? Would I need to move anything else?

I'm on 120416, currently, though not the Shivering Isles version, of course. I'm guessing running the SI patch should cause no problems?

There are no other Data files that need copied? Just the ESM/ESP?

Should I just backup my entire Documents/My Games/Oblivion directory just in case, and overwrite it once the Steam install is complete?

If this is all it takes, I may give it a try.

Thanks again, all.

If you're already on that build, then I don't think you'll need or even want to run the SI patch.

Also the BSAs, you'll know them when you see them. Everything you should need is named after the expansions they belong to. Most of the filenames even begin with "DLC", with the exception of Knights of the Nine's.

Wouldn't hurt, but don't forget the separate AppData\Local\Oblivion folder I mentioned before.

AppData is found within your Windows user profile folder. You'll need to reveal hidden files and folders in order to browse there, or, you can paste %localappdata%\Oblivion into the Windows Explorer address bar to jump to it directly.

Many thanks, mate!

Good news is GOTY Deluxe Edition is now on sale for $10. I don't mind paying that for all the DLC.

Yes

Well, SHXT!

I installed Oblivion via steam. Copied over the esp and bsa files from the DLCs, applied the Unofficial SI Patch, reinstalled Francesco's to include SI, then copied over both folders in 'My Games' and 'Appdata'. Now, when I try to run OBSE, it crashes after the Bethesda logo.

FML

Edit: So I uninstalled the USIP and Francesco's. I was able to get into the main menu. I reinstalled USIP, but the game crashed after Bethlogo. Uninstalled. I reinstalled Francesco's. Crash before main menu.

What the freaking hell. I'm going to have to remod everything through Steam after all. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Are you doing anything special with your load order? It might pay to let BOSS take a look at it, if you haven't sorted it already.
jovalleau Feb 17, 2018 @ 9:57am
I do normally use BOSS.
jovalleau Feb 17, 2018 @ 12:37pm
After playing around some more, I can relaunch the game with Francesco's, just not the Shivering Isle addon. I also cannot load the Shivering Isle Unofficial Patch. Everything else seems to be working fine. I received all the journal updates for the various DLC. No mention of KotN, though. I wonder if that and SI are loaded properly?

Edit: Something definitely has to be wrong with SI. I loaded a game, waited 3 in game days, fast traveled to a few locations, and I haven't received the "Strange Door" quest, nor is the island in the Niben Bay near Bravil.

The SI esp and the BSA files are all in the Data folder. The ESP is checked in the data files list. What else could be wrong?

Edit 2: BRINGO! I've solved the issue. I was sure something was missing with regard to the Data files. I thought there would be a Shivering Isles esM, but there wasn't. Hmmm...I checked the oblivion.esm in my retail Data folder with the one in the Steam Data folder. Lo and behold, the Steam version was 264 MB, while the retail version was 235 MB. So, I copied the Steam version to the retail directory, applied the SI unofficial patch, reinstalled SI version of Francesco's and VOILA! The game loaded normally, and I received the "Door in Niben Bay" quest!

So far, so good!
