Busting some glass
Is there a way to break the glass case in Rindir's Staff store in Imperial City?

You can also use the unlock command from the console

you can't break the glass. and as far as i rememeber i think either you gotta take a key rindir has, or use cheats. otherwise you're not getting whats in there without buying it.

that being said if you're looking for a good place to rob, i'd recommend going to the weaponshop in anvil. couple silver weapons and i beleive he leave shis enchanted item for sale on the desk? been a while since i've been a theif.

I used to try to play the "good guy" in games like this, but in most of these games, there's no real good or bad choices. In fact, in many quests start off where you have to stop the "bad thing" and then to complete the quest, you have to do the bad thing yourself. Plus many of the "bad" questlines like Dark Brotherhood, offer rewards that are too good to pass up. If I'm going to just murder people on command, then I don't see any reason not to steal crap (without getting caught) when the opportunity is there.

You said you *used to* play a thief. I was just saying that there's no real incentive to not steal anything that you can get away with in-game, because the game doesn't really seem to reward you for being good. There seem to be more incentives for infamy and "bad guy" questlines (thieve's guild/dark brotherhood/daedric/etc.) than for fame.

KoTN changes that. You can't use the KoTN equipment unless you have an infamy of 0.
In terms of the base game, there's a few quests that you can't do unless your Fame is at least a certain level. Finally, if your Infamy is higher than your Fame, the altars in the temples don't work.

Yeah, but KoTN also lets you reset/wipe your infamy points too. So again, you can do as much "evil" stuff as you want, and then when you want to do KoTN, just wipe it. So there's no real consequences for your choices in-game, which seems like both a good and bad thing. Good, because you're not tied to a certain playstyle, but also bad, because ultimately the choices don't seem to have real consequences which can detract from roleplaying aspects. Even more so in Skyrim, where many quests begin with "stop this bad thing!" and end with "do the bad thing!"

I like to do KoTN as one of the first questlines as a new player. Then continue on as normal until level 18 when the knights start spawning ebony weapons.

Then I kill them all. Take their weapons and sell them all to the merchant from the pirates DLC then go to the imperial city and wipe the bounty. (You could even do this just with the grey cowl to avoid paying anything)

That'll teach em.
