If still unable to change resolutions then try changing the ini.
Find the folder where the game is installed. Find the Oblivion_default.ini
Open it and find the values for iSize W= , iSize H= . Change the values to what you want your resolution to be. i.e iSize W=1920 , iSize H=1080
Remember to save it.
Also right click the ini, open properties and change to read only so it cannot be set back.
Hope this works for you.
thank you though, if you have any other ideas it would be much appropriated:)
I run the game via a shortcut I made to the oblivion.exe file--maybe directly loading the game that way and then changing the settings for resolution within the game will work for you.
Also, if you are up to it -- you can try to change the settings in the Oblivion.ini file.
It is not in the game folder, but in my documents probably under my documents\my games\oblivion
search for Oblivion.ini
Then search in that for [Display] and in there somewhere should be the following; this example shows a full screen with 1920x1080 resolution:
bFull Screen=1
iSize W=1920
iSize H=1080
Just change the W and H to match your 2k, so that may be 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 depending on what you're referring to.
For the record, I am playing at "2K" myself on a card Oblivion couldn't identify; here is what my entry in that file looks like:
bFull Screen=1
iSize W=2560
iSize H=1600
While I am not the person and this is not the post to discuss various changes in, that file contains a lot of stuff that can be altered to make the game run better or look better, even both.
You can also determine if your game is even recognizing the card properly even if the auto detector in the launch does not -- the same folder should have a "rendererinfo.txt" file. In that should be the name of your card as it identified it. It may be that the game engine recognizes the card--but that the launcher does not.
If that's the case, the game itself will likely work fine once you get past the resolution issue.
check antivirus log. might be blocking the game launcher or game.
check windows security/controlled folder access. if on add exceptions for game/game launcher.
rename the Oblivion folder in Documents\My Games.
start game launcher. change settings. exit.
see if the Oblivion.ini was created and contains the settings you just made
