Incompatible with Controller

I downloaded this for the first time and it isn't working with the controller I use for PC. Is it a matter of brand or is the game just incompatible with a controller?

you have to set it up with mods iirc and afaik only Xbox/Xinput is compatible

game doesn´t have working native gamepad, you need to install a thing called OBSE(oblivion script extender) and theres various mods that do gamepad support I think the most popular is called northernUI you can get it from nexusmods.
(asfarasiKNOW both OBSE and stuff from nexusmods should be 100% safe to install,but downloading stuff from the internet is at your discretion)


and above poster is semi correct about xbox controllers..even if the game+mod only works with xbxox pads, steam has a controller section that acts as a go between making most types of controllers work even with games that only supports xinput. But you may need to manually tweak stuff depending on you controller.
You COULD even set it up via steams controller config so that your gamepad corresponds to mouse and keyboard settings and even get it working that way but setting that up + messing around in menus inggame would probably suck and be the more time consuming option with worse outcome so modding per paragraph above would be my choice.

well some games refuse to work with non-Xinput controllers even if you change the controller settings in BPM, which then would require an Xinput emulator like x360ce.

never had an issue getting my dualshocks working in any game using steam to emulate xbox gamepads though.

Not saying it never happens just saying I can´t personally recall having any issues and I´ve played alot of games, I had way more issues with for instance ds4windows esp with games that had PARTIAL but not fully functional support ,but maybe certain combinations of gamepads and games are difficult idk I know some old games don´t like the NEW xbox controllers even though they work fine with old 360´s.


(though I haven´t tested non-xinputs with oblivion and mods so maybe you do need a third party wrapper idk)

x360ce (xinput emulator) works fine with Nothern UI, I already tried it with my Cordless Rumblepad2.
So, xinput is not a problem for directinput gamepads. At least, for popular ones

I just tried northern ui with my dualshock 4 and it worked fine just using steam gamepad config no external software needed.

nah , I´ve never had to use big picture. As long as the gamepads been correctly setup it hasn´t mattered. And I just tested again no big picture and it´s exactly the same.

Though for some reason steam decided to configure the dualshock as a mouse and keyboard first which surprisingly worked but with the wrong prompts so I changed it to emulate xbox gamepad instead and then northern ui picked it up as a xbox and gave me the xbox prompts and all was well.

(though other gamepads may be different,I can only vouch for dualshocks)

yeah I have an Xbox Series controller and some games I actually have to either disable Xbox config or all config options completely for it to work
