The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Favourite places to (re) visit in Oblivion
I know this game is getting a bit old in the tooth, but there are a few places in Skyrim that made me reinstall recently. One of them is the Temple of the Ancestor Moths. I just like the name and remember playing through and seeing it years ago. If curious, I made a vid showing the hike up to that desolate and interesting place.

What are your favourite locales in Oblivion? Does anyone still play this game?

Cool I'll check out the video :) Ahhh I just can't pick one. One of my all time favourite games ever since I was a child. Just a total gem I won't forget!

I forget the mod or where the cabin is located exactly but a mod adds a simple wooden cabin at the top of a mountain. It must be the highest point you can get to in the game and I doubt it can be reached by land. I have to use a flying spell to reach it. The cabin is on flat ground but there is a sheer drop and it's a long way down. I set up some benches and plants and it was tranquil sitting there trying out a pipe smoking mod. I'll try to remember the mod and get some screenshots.

I like to see the entrance to Sundercliff Watch because when I see that I see money! Lots of it.

I personally love the ride from Chorrol to Bruma using the north road that goes through the forests and into the mountains... when I have to do that ride, I take it very slowly and just walk the road.

As for actual sights, I love standing at the top of the deep ravines of the Strid river near Anvil and watching the other side.

If you include mods, Roads of Cyrodiil in this case, it adds the road from Chorrol to Anvil, which also has some nice views and sights, specially if you use Unique Landscapes.

And finally, for anyone that likes trekking... Trails of Cyrodiil mod is awesome, I personally love the trail from Cheydinhal to Leyawiin, it's a long road that goes up to the mountains and at the end crosses through the swamps.

With Unique Landscapes installed the Strid River from Skyngrad towards Faregyl is a nice trek too.

Just be careful with the patching, Trails of Cyrodiil require lots of compat patches, depending on the mods you've already loaded, else you can get land tears over the conflicting areas.

For me one of my favourite things to do was to escort Maiq the liar, in his run from Anvil to Leyawiin. He does it both ways of course and runs incredibly fast such that you need quite a boost in Speed to keep up.
He only stops when there's a bandit in his path. So to follow him you need to clear his path then try to follow him again and he can idle next to minotaurs or beasts, or follow deer like a sprite. So being able to cast invisibility is a beneficial to avoid neast while attempting to race across the Oblivion map. Also having a detect Life enchantments to see where he is helps.

As far as a unique spot .. dive Rock is great ... and a perfect place to take the Fan
"By Azura, by Azura, by Azura!" A mile high location in game.
"Yes, oh great and mighty Grand Champion? Is there something you need? Can I carry your weapon? Shine your boots? Backrub, perhaps?

The trail that leads to Malada is pretty nice, if a little odd that Umbacano has presumably been searching for that place for years, yet it has this well-defined path that splits right off an actual road.

Everything about Oblivion is just comforting to me personally. Kinda weird to say, but there's a warmth to this game that no other has matched.

My favorite places to visit in this game are the inns you run into on the road. Away from all the major towns and cities. Seeing the fire going and seeing the alien scenery is very calming in a way.

If I lived in a video game, Oblivion would sure be it.
I love the atmosphere of Leyawiin, Chorrol and Cheydinhal. Ayelid Ruins and Oblivion gates give off wonderful vibes in my opinion, too.

It has a pleasantness to it, like going to a high budget, but still cheesy ren-fair.

The goofy faces, voice acting and spotty AI also gives everything a sense of whimsical madness, which may very well be why Shivering Isles was a thing.

Easily my most beloved place is the ayleid ruin you come across when you exit the sewers from the tutorial.
It is just an awesome feeling to exit the sewers and realize how gigantic the world is.

I remember emerging from the sewers for the first time and being blown away. Just standing there looking around and realising this was a gaming revolution for me. I upgraded my PC with a new GPU and more RAM in 2006 so I could play Oblivion so I was seeing graphics and gameplay I had never experienced before.

I have fond memories of the Waterfront Shack because it was a safe haven during early stages of the game and the small size made it more cozy with a chunk of beef and loaf of bread in front of the fireplace. When I have vast wealth and Rosethorn Hall is filled with expensive artefacts and gems I still remember my humble beginnings at the Waterfront.

Thing with the waterfront shack was you'd have the floor littered with gear that wouldn't despawn and with too few chests made it a large storage hut. Especially for the weightless bound armor, that could be enchanted.

Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad. Its just so nice, very expensive yes, and for a reason, but that's what makes it even better. Its such a reward for all your progress.

A modded home I have grown to love is Red Rose Manor on the hills West of the ruin Fanacasecul, before getting to Shrine of Kynereth. Great views of the Imperial Harbor, plays well with Companion Vilja for a second or third modded play through. Has some unique crafting, wine making and special features including an underground pool and teleport system.

It's a great feeling to unlock the door to Rosethorn Hall and walk around the rooms for the first time. Of all the countless mods I've installed that have added player homes from manors to castles I always miss Rosethorn Hall to the point where I move back there. It's the perfect base and the bedroom is a good size for training combat and magical skills with summons.
