I got this poor guy following
This guy names Erthor is following me and I can't get rid of him. I rescued him from a cave and the lady at the Mages guild won't take him back. I will say he loves to fight.

Enter the Skingrad Mages Guild, quicksave, then open the console by pressing ~ and type in setstage MG01Destruct 80, then hit enter. If that doesn't work, quickload and type setstage MG01Destruct 100. These will force the quest to update and should make Erthor stop following. You might actually want to keep him around if you don't want to join the Mages Guild yet, though, as he's an unkillable ally. He does have a tendency to run away when he's at half health though.

I don't know what you're talking about. Console? Sorry, man.

The console is a developer tool that basically lets you enter cheat codes. You open it by pressing the ~ key. When you do the game will pause and you'll see a little white line in the bottom left corner of the screen. Type in the commands I told you then press enter.

Like this person told you, once you load the game, press the ~ key and type in "CompleteQuest MGDestruct". That will finish the quest.

I finally got the guy back home safe. Now I got this kid who is in love with me following me around. One time he was killed and then he ended up in this store in Anvil??

Ah, the Adoring Fan. He actually respawns, so feel free to let him die in horrible ways. He's a good sport.

Apparently only shoving him of Dive Rock will kill the Adoring fan. If you can find it way above Aerin's camp.
You can of course tell him to stand in any certain spot and then ignore him for the rest of the game. I left him in the bloodworks and never saw him again.

Where did you hear that @Eternie? He'll die, but he'll always respawn iirc

@ Potatoflesh

It use to be accepted as fact in the early days and I think it was stated in UESP Oblivion years ago. Now it could be that the unofficial patch has "fixed this possible death" You can survive following him down the slope of Dive rock if your sneaking and casting healing spells.

It can be seen here in an old vid. https://youtu.be/gbU_YqGZF5Y

Either way it's easiest just telling him to stand somewhere and leave him ... unless your happy to have an adoring fan.

Yeah ik about that video. I think it gave rise to a misconception that this is the ONLY way our favorite Bosmer can die. He can die, but he'll always respawn. The thing is, according to UESP, if he dies while waiting, he'll respawn at the point he died. So, if the person who made this video boots up that ancient save, they'll probably find the Adoring Fan waiting for them at the bottom of that mountain. He can apparently despawn if he's left in a dungeon and you spend at least 3 days without entering that dungeon. I can personally confirm this one: I have left essential followers inside dungeons, and if you leave them there too long they will be inaccessible even with placeatme commands.

I like to keep seeing him flee.
