Oblivion is SLOW [FIXED]

I'm trying to play Oblivion on a machine that handles Witcher 3 and Just Cause 3 smoothly on near-highest settings yet Oblivion is ridiculously slow.

I have set the game to the lowest settings, playing windowed mode in 640x480 and the game feels very slow and sluggish. When I enter a dialog with an NPC the game just comes to a near halt and even the cursorstarts to lag heavily. What the ♥♥♥♥ is going on?

Machine:
Windows 10
i5 @ 3.20GHz with 4 cores
8GB of memory
Nvidia GTX 780

Also:
- No mods
- No second monitor

Right there with you. I'm literally getting 1 FPS without even leaving the dungeon at the start of the game. There's got to be something I'm missing here.

perhaps game is using motherboard graphics and not your dedicated card. my 1920x1080 and 750 ti runs the game at 60fps everything maxed..

you got to many cores on it, try limiting cores to 2-3, if you dont know how to limit cores on stuff, google it, tell me how it goes though.

Wow! That seems to have fixed it. It also seems that disabling UAC virtualization through the same menu adds another speed boost.

Okay, the previous fix (of reducing the num of cpus) helped, but still combat was slow. I now know what caused the issue: codecs.

Modify the oblivion.ini file in [Username]/Documents/My Games/Oblivion/ (not the oblivion_default.ini file) and disable sound and music. If that makes your game superfast, then I suggest that you look at your sound system.

In my case I had to uninstall K-Lite and install the Microsoft Windows Media Feature Pack.
