The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Minimizing Oblivion
Is there any way to minimize oblivion while it's running? I've tried stuff like pressing the windows key but it doesn't work. I'm in windowed mode. Is there any setting I can change so that I can minimize the game while it's running?

I don’t believe so. I suggest making sure Task Manager is set to Always On Top, should the game crash and you want to get out, easily.

Oblivion Reloaded let's you run in a borderless window, but you lose the in game brightness control then.

What's Oblivion Reloaded? Is it a mod?

Yes, it’s a graphics overhaul. It can do some very nice things, but it can also cause many problems with its settings and conflicts. Unless you are very experienced with config settings, you should stay away from it.

pressing alt tab still works to make you able to do other things when operating in window mode. . It doesnt minimize the game but it does allow you to operate outside the game. Meaning you can use other programs the start button basically anything you wanted to do.

But the game is still unminimized. Still on the screen.

You can check this one:
https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/38735/?

or this one:
https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/38800/

Both are separate executables that allow you to alt-tab/minimize oblivion without crashes.

It's simpler and less stressful to just quit the game and exit. Task manager is useless on a locked up game and you have to log out or reboot. If you do successfully switch to another app or desktop, it isn't unusual to be unable to switch back to the game.

Yes, this is 100% true.

I always just open the menu (Press Escape) then hit ALT+TAB and im out, without mods. And no bordered window or anything like that either. It might crash after going back in though.

I've been doing the alt+tab tricks and it's been working just fine. I do normally save before doing it since crashing seems to be common.
