The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Oblivion closes on tab out
When I tab out of oblivion to do something else ony my computer , it always freezes and closes. It never did this before.

This is my load order:

Doe someone know of a way to fix this ? Even making another desktop closes it.

there is no way to help, i tried installing two mods for it and t still keeps crashing
bugthesda sends their regards
it has nothing to do with your mods or loadorders, its just the game

Use OneTweak for borderless windowed mode. Cap the framerate at 60 through w/e program of your choice. Oblivion will most likely crash on alt-tab while in fullscreen. That's just how it is.

IIRC you also need to change the game to run in windowed mode first for OneTweak to take effect. Maybe you didn't know. In Oblivion.ini:
bFull Screen=0

Without windowed mode, all Bethesda engine games either crash, freeze or give glitches if you alt tab out. Without window mode you simply shouldn't do it

I've always had issues with oblivion crashing when I alt tab, even before using mods, but I found a work around for it.

This isn't a perfect solution and it may sound a bit weird, but this is how I deal with the game crashing when alt tabbing.

I found that If you pause the game, using either esc or bringing up your inventory, then shift+tab to bring up the steam overlay, then alt tab out, the game doesn't crash when tabbing back in.
When you tab back in, the steam overlay will still be up, and your screen may flicker or pause for half a second, but it shouldn't crash.

I don't understand it. I don't know what changes when you bring up the overlay and alt tab, but it works. It's not the best fix, and it doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's significantly reduced the number of crashes from tabbing out.

I hope it works for you.

Found a mod that fixes and explains the alt tab problem. It requires the oblivion script extender to work, but that's relatively easy to install.

Here's an OBSE install guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6jKcFrmNdA

Here's the OBSE download page: http://obse.silverlock.org/

And here's the mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47954

If this mod on its own doesn't fix the problem, they recommend using NVAC as well.
(It was originally for new vegas, but it works for oblivion too.)

NVAC mod page: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635/?

Hope this helps!
