The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Can your attributes lose points? (solved and prayed)
Hello everyone. I used to play this game way back when it was just one or two years afther. Boy i had no idea what i was doing and recently i brought this game for steam to play.

Recently i noticed something that around level 12-11 i started getting more new gears such as the silver swords and even the elven longsword. Showed some nice stats at first with such as Silver longsword 100% = 12 damage
Elven Longsword 100% =14 damage
Elven ♥♥♥♥ing claymore 100% =16 damage
I dont remember when but i think i must gotten cursed or poisoned at some point maybe it had something to do with ghosts or maybe some random sorcerer did something. because now it's LESS. WAY LESS. an elven longsword only does 11-10 damage while less does as much damage as i recognise from an Iron Longsword with 7 damage.

Is this a bug i am just now suffering or is it possible that your attributes can be permamently damage/drained and therefore have to re-grind it?

They can get damaged yeah, but of you pray at a chapel that will restore them.

Your attributes can be drained and damaged. The drain effect is usually visible and it's caused by curses. The attributes go red in case your attributes are damaged, you can see that in your journal. You should try visitng a wayshrine or a chapel to restore your stats in any case. There's always the magic effects tab in the magic window in case you are under the influence of a curse or disease.

That's what worries me i had no idea when it occured and the passive effects showed nothing really. But i will try next time to whip myself at the church.

Also my journal shows green due to specific training from a certain orc. (Blades are still expert i believe hopefully)

There are a few quests and items that will give you a stats penalty for the duration of the quest or while you carry the items.

Examples:
The Scales of Pitiless Justice will decrease your personality when they are in your inventory.
Felldew Withdrawal during one of the Shivering Isles quests will drain multiple attributes until you eat mre felldew or finish the quest.

I did the Alewell quest (The not-actual-dissaperance-of-a-town-quest and welp when i stopped the invisibility curse my LUCK went ALL THE WAY TO 0)

I know that one from Shivering Isles please i thought before i had to live with it and almost wanted to cry with ice cream in a corner until i later understood the end.

Items that would decrease? I actually never knew of that.

Maybe all you need to do is repair your weapon.

Thank you all very much! It was indeed some wacky damage in my charater and a simple pray on a sunday church helped it all!
