Usually this is caused by overzealous "security" software protecting your Documents folder, which is where the game wants to store its saves.

For example, the Controlled Folder Access feature in Windows 10 will do it if enabled, unless you add a specific exception for the game.

Other tools such as Avast, McAfee, and especially BitDefender may also be your culprit.

yeah definately sounds like a firewall problem.

How do I fix it?

If it is a firewall or antivirus program causing it. You have to go into your firewall or antivirus program and change permission for oblivion game allowing the firewall to let oblivion do its thing. Basically setting oblivion as a trusted program.

Another issue is accidentally hitting TAB at the start of the characters name. That stops the game from saving too. Open the console and put "player.setactorfullname [name]" without the quotation marks. It might work.

I probably fixed it, the folder was marked as read only. Ill let you all know for sure later. Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, right. Notice how Windows shows you the same thing on every folder?

I unclicked the read only box then saved, but when I go back into folder properties it shows read only still toggled. How do I fix this

You don't - Windows doesn't apply the read only property to folders. The toggle you're seeing is used to affect folder content, and even then it can't be used to identify whether that content is already read only. For that you need to check the properties of the files themselves - though if you can't create save files in the first place, then obviously the read only attribute isn't your problem!

If you're having trouble figuring out how to check whether your security software is involved, how about telling us what you have? Which version of Windows are you running? What such tools do you have installed?

I’m running Windows 10, my security software is Windows Defender Security Center version 1.289.734.0 and I’m updating to windows update version 1809

In that case, Defender's "Controlled Folder Access" feature would be the thing to check.

I’m afraid it didn’t help.

Ok, so what did you find? Is it on? Off? Did you try to add an exclusion, or what?
daver105 Mar 8, 2019 @ 9:56pm
It was on, I turned it off and tried making the folders not read only but it didn’t work

I even created an administrator account and everything is still read only
