Main quest difficulty?
I’m about 12 th level and started the main quest last night, and man was it difficult. I’ve been fighting in the arena and clearing random dungeons with no problems, but clearing Kavach kicked my butt, I had to turn the difficulty down.
Was it the same with you guys? Or am I doing something wrong?

One of the weird things about this game, is the higher level you are the harder it becomes (if using vanilla leveling, and unless you mix/max your level ups.)

So, yeah, Kvatch is one of those places where as soon as you cross into the L10 boundary, nasty stuff start to spawn...

That's why most people would suggest doing Kvatch at low level. or as early as you can... as it becomes harder and harder the more you wait.

I believe in vanilla (with no overhauls installed) normal bandits start spawning with Glass armor around L14 or so... (IIRC)... and around L18 to L21 you start to see people in Daedric stuff all around you... so yeah, leveling it's broken in vanilla (IMHO ofc.)

That's the reason why there are dozens of overhauls mods in existence :)

I'd suggest, as solution, install a retroactive health mod (which makes health only depend on current ENC and not on the points you put there on level up) and think about the way you leveled, like in the 11 past levels, how many times did you get more than 3 points to spend?

I'd go and use the console to give your char about ~15 to 25 attribute points on the stats of your choice (which compensate the fact that you didn't got perfect amount of stat boost to spend.)

And from now on, you can either install the Always +5 attributes mod, or simply keep giving your char 2 or 3 extra points each level as you see fit... you are your own DM/GM there :)

Thanks for the reply, I actually do know how the vanilla leveling works and tried to get +5 in at least 3 abilities each level (but sometimes it didn't work out). However, since I got most of my XP in the arena, I think I'm way behind in good equipment, most of my stuff is still plain Steel.
I'm not very tech savvy when it comes in installing mods, could you link a good tutorial?
thanks a million

These are the mods I mentioned in my post:

True Retroactive Health[www.nexusmods.com]
All +5 Attribute Modifiers[www.nexusmods.com]

Those don't require OBSE or anything else... basically download them, copy them to you Oblivion install , and put them inside the Data folder and activate them in the launcher and they should work.

As for guides, I'd recommend Bevilex guide[www.nexusmods.com] as I believe is the most comprehensive and up-to-date.

It also has a video that goes over the setup:

But there are several others, like Valde's guide here:

For some other general videos on tutorials, I may suggest this one:

or this one:

or even this one:

I didn't watch them to full completion (except the last one, which is mostly a catalog of interesting lite mods to try, if you're interested in pursuing this more deeply,) but they seemed to be some of the most to the point ones available, and also more recent too.
