Oblivion wont stop crashing
I have disabled all my mods, clean instal, verify ect but i get about 10 minutes into a clean save and it just crashes to desktop. no error

I can't think of anything else to fix this.

Anyone have any ideas?

I played this about a year ago on the same pc with no issues so im struggling to understand the issue

Edit - Fixed the issue, was a sound card issue Asus xonar

Turning off the GX option enabled the game to work

I feel like there is no fix to this...

No mods - crash
Mods - crash
Changed sound card settings - crash
Uninstalled sound card- crash
Reinstall - crash
Delete ini and saves - crash
Run in windowed on low graphics - crash

I give up, ive spent 3 hours trying to fix this and nothing has helped, get to the same point every time and boom crash to desktop with no error

Sigh. It sucks because oblivion is one of my fav games ever and i cant play it
I would say just try using some basic upgrades, like the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, OBSE, and the 4gb patch. I was having problems on my last PC with Oblivion crashing to desktop with no error or anything and just installing those helped.

Yeah i tried those as well and no luck :( buttttt i think i might have found the issue, my sound card asus xonar has an issue with older games apparently so by turning off an option called GX it should apparently fix the issue

Im going to give it a go in a few minutes and see if it does

I personally would just buy the GoG version. It's a slightly better product for the PC.

Really? Is there an issue with the steam version then?

Do you have texture replacers installed? Or OBSE and OBSE plugins? Or any mod that doesn't have an ESP file that is replacing game assets like meshes? Disabling plugin/ESP files doesn't get rid of those, as that would explain why you keep crashing even with your mods disabled...

From the way you described the issue on your original post, I'd say that it's probably virtual address exhaustion which is normal when you start using any mods that modifies assets from the game... if you don't have the 4GB patch applied, that is.

Another thing that could be possible causing this is video ram exhaustion... if you have too big textures for the amount of video ram you have.. you can see this using TDT and SDT 2 in the console and watching your Texture Mem value... is should be always be less than your total video ram available.

If you're using OBSE and some plugins, those also stay active when you disable mods, so the problem could be coming from one of those... like for example, Oblivion Stutter Remover... a bad Heap configuration can cause those type of crashes you mention.

If all else fails, disable Autosaves and check if those were causing the issue, that could signal that some kind of save game corruption happened at some point, and even with mods disable you have still scripts running on your player char that can cause crashes.

I figured it out in the end, it was the sound card! Which is the last thing i would think would make a game crash but apparently my model has alot of issues with old games

Ouchs :`( Sorry to hear that... yeah, Oblivion in particular has a lots of issues with sound codecs and cards...

It's more that GoG added in the community patches for the game, so out of the box it's much more stable.

But I personally got the BSA bug for modding, when using the GoG version along with Vortex. It was a simple fix, that took me days to figuare it out.
