The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Oblivion crashes when I fast-travel, but only to cities.
If anyone here could help me I would be very grateful.
I'm running Windows 10 and I have no mods installed. The game crashes every time I try to fast travel to a city location (ie Chorrol South Gate), but works fine visiting other locations, like mines.
I figured it was a problem with a corrupt autosave, so I turned autosaving off (probably should have done that a while ago) and deleted the old autosave file, following the steps in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oL1r8GOvq0 . I'm starting to run low on ideas. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated; it's hard to troubleshoot on my own.

Edit: forgot to mention that while I don't have mods, I do have all DLC

Edit 2: now it crashes every time I fast travel, regardless of where

Edit 3: the crashes are now completely at random (looting a corpse, loading a save after death). not sure if that's progress or not.

I had similar issue whith Morroblivion mod (it crashed at random), fixed it by using Purge Cell Buffers Mod (from tesnexus, should work in "loading mode", https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/9139/). the idea behind this mod is to dynamically clean all unused data from areas you've visited, that should help to make game more stable. what you can do~
install this mod, activate it at the end of your Mods, don't include it into bashed patch because it will not work, load your save game and fast travel to couple of different places. it should clear your cells buffer, now try to travel to city gate. also make sure to install unofficial patches for Oblivion and all DLCs (if you have it), it fixes all quest bugs.

also if you have mopy (wrye bash you can try to clean your save from bloat, if you played it for like 100 hours it can help to improve things a bit)

OBSE almost fixed it. I was able to fast travel to several different non-city locations and then to Chorrol South Gate without any issues. I went to Anvil Castle Gate (near my house) and it crashed again. Oblivion now says the save file is corrupt and I can't find a single .bak to fix it.
This is my first time using mods and I don't know what the heck I'm doing, but I really appreciate your comments. This is a steep af learning curve and I severely doubt I'm doing any of this right. I've definitely been having a lot of issues trying to install Purge Cell Buffers mod.

go to steam game settings and disable cloud sync. go to your saves folder and backup your game manually (just copy if somewhere). in this case you will be in full control of your saves and steam won't sync you back corrupted files. suggestion about purge cell buffers still stay . it works with OBSE pretty well. what kind of issues do you have? just put it at the very end of your mods (do you have any tool to sort mods order?)

try loading a save before the save you are currently using(like 2 or 3 before the most recent one should be plenty). the problem might be caused from there.

I accidentally gained 3 levels via mad alchemy skillz, so unless all these gotdamn minotaurs want some feather 200 points, I'm in danger.

Hey, thanks a lot for responding. I've never modded before so there's a steep learning curve, but I have Oblivion Mod Manager running OBSE, Engine Bug Fixes, OBSE Test Plugin, and Purge Cell Buffers (loading mode). As far as I can tell via OBMM, Purge Cell Buffers is loading last. Also, thanks for the heads up about cloud sync.
