It has it's own unique feel. Walking through a green forest while Auriel's Ascension plays, being able to see the White-Gold Tower from almost anywhere with a clear view, and the saturated fantasy colors.
I really can appreciate it doesn't take itself so seriously all the time. It's not afraid to try and be dark but it has humor too. Some of that isn't intentional, like the AI or engine will just do absurd things and the NPC dialogue is so bad it's funny but it makes me smile. I can't think of a single quest in Morrowind or Skyrim that made me laugh but Oblivion has. It has an earnestness to it, it's trying it's best but isn't quite there. Like a lovable dog, maybe it's kinda cute and simple but it just wants you to be happy and have fun.
Though even with all that talk about it being cute, it's also the only TES game that jumpscares me. It's the dungeon soundtracks and ambience I think, does an amazing job of creating a haunted empty feeling. The dungeons themselves are pretty lacking but I do mean it when I say it does it's best with the tools it's given.
I would have to agree with all of this. The dungeons felt like they lasted forever and I did have alot of jump scares to go along with them.
@steelspartian - agree music - wow - mood.
@killdozer - agree. Both FO4, and Skyrim do have much better graphics, and FO4 adds the settlement mechanic, BUT both dumb down the FRP, IMHO. I went from OB to Morrowind - loved the role play, the stories / quests. Sure the graphics were less (mods fix it mostly). More text, less handholding, and world did NOT level up with player. Liked it. OOO recaptures a bit of that. I feel Oblivion actually is Morrowind dumbed down, as well. (sad)
@All. Scarriest / funniest thing happened in Oblivion. I'm underwater, in a cave,fighting an NPC, afraid of drowning, and...
another NPC, a messenger, shows up, under the water, and forces a chat ... I need air.. arggg. Scary and funny.
Can redeem it free until Sunday, March 31st. You have to install/play it through their launcher though
