The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul or both?
I'm contemplating between the options and I want to do a long play through but I'm not sure which option will be the best choice. I know I could do both but after researching the two, I just don't know.

What do you think?

Thanks!

OOO makes the game more difficult, have more monsters, different types of enemies and loot and it's recently been updated too so you can't go wrong with that mod.

I haven't really tried MOO but maybe some of the others can comment but it's a similar sort of mod.

From the sounds of it, I don't think you can install both as they change the same things so it's either one or the other.

No, you can install both. MOO will adjust itself to work with OOO and other mods. I'm just not sure what it is like to play either one or both together.

Ah, ok my bad. I actually had a brief look at MOO and it looks really good actually and they have also recently updated it too.

I might consider getting both of them too actually. I think you should too.

I really do like MOO and I'll probably use it, just not sure about adding OOO in as well. After I installed MOO, there was a bug in my cell, a bird flew by me outside, definately interesting. I've gone through Bevilex mod guide and added the two on and UL. With nothing more than some play testing, nothing has crashed but that was only about 10-15 min at a time.

I use both myself... I really like OOO quests and static loot placement and ridiculous overpowered enemies :)

If you like breadcrumbs type of quests (following clues and notes over the world, and pieces things together that are seemingly not related) then OOO quests would be of your taste (I hope, at least!)

Also, I really like some of the items OOO add... you have to defeat some powerful enemies to get them, but when you do so, you're rewarded aplenty.

In contrast, MOO makes the world more dynamic and alive and enemies more varied, so they complement very well together... but difficulty can be brutal at times, if you're not prepared to deal with that.

I compensate the increase in difficulty by using Advanced Alchemy mod (which lets you create really good potions for buffing up and/or dealing with resistant enemies) and Duke Patrick mods that makes combat more brutal and quick, but also "easier" in a way, since you deal with most enemies in a few hits, but same applies to you, and you can be one or two shot if you're not careful.

As a consequence, I always play leveled up characters, like +30 or so... I rarely start L1 characters anymore... I just use console or the mod Levelers Cheat to boost my levels and shape the character as I like it.

I think I'll do both then. Thanks for the info. I have avoided alchemy because the effort never seemed worth the rewards. I loved Everquest back in the day so I understand leveling up before going too far. As I said, I've used Bevilex's guide so I have mods like Vanilla Combat Enhanced, Midas Magic Spells and Less Annoying Magic Experience.

Keep in mind that MOO disables some of its features when it detects OOO installed. Like trapped chests, and bashing etc. due to the fact that OOO offers the same features.

There was a mod somewhere that made it possible to use MOO more modern implementation over OOO's older one... basically removing OOO traps and bash mechanic from the game, but I don't recall how it was called, sadly :(

You will probably also want to tune down MOO ini file to normal difficulty or advanced at most, since OOO will add up to the world danger too and MOO higher settings can become a bit overwhelming... I think I play on Advanced and haven't got any troubles... except dying is normal and you have to approach encounters carefully.

Advanced Alchemy buffs potion duration and lets you get rid of negative effects and thus enables more combinations that can be used to make really strong poisons... as always, abuse is up to the user lol

I don't normally use poisons, but I certainly use buff potions (mostly pre-combat, like fortify attributes, shield, fort. magicka, etc.) and avoid drinking potions during combat as compensation (i.e. Duke's adds an animation that locks you up for a bit while drinking a potion, so you need to use them strategically.)

And yeah those are good choices too... I also use Less Annoying Magic Experience, and have used Vanilla Combat Enhanced in the past once or twice.

Both.

I've turned down the difficulty in MOO to normal and some settings in Vanilla Combat Enhanced. During some play testing, mud crabs were hard. I could not just go and take on two at a time. I had to circle and line them up to attack the closest one while keeping the other behind the first. It was fun! If I remember correctly, without the mods, you kill those things in one, maybe two hits which took a second or so. Almost seemed like I didn't even hit them and they just died in my presence.

Check it clearing Vilverin, that's the standard measure I always used to gauge gameplay... if you have trouble there you'll certainly will have a world of trouble in the more difficult ruins.
