The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

draw distance/pop in?
i've maxed all my settings and even tweaked the config file to exceed the normal cap for draw distance. and i still can't see massive alied ruins until i'm basically standing inside them. i remember playing this game on 360 way back when and i distinctly recall it having a better view range than this...

i can't even see the ruins over the lake from the imperial city waterfront.

anyone know how i can make my view longe ror got a mod recommendation that'll fix this? frankly it's quite unimmersive to suddenly have a huge marble ruin just pop into existance when i'm 20 feet away from it...

weird stuff man, i have mine all set about halfway and Ayleid ruins appear just fine when the area loads/renders.

are you sure you didint tweak the configuration file too mush?

Do you have a screenshot of the effect we could see?

One thing that comes to mind is the fact that you can completely disable Distant Land in the Launcher, and that in fact makes the game much like Morrowind was... where you only see the cells loaded in, and outside of that there's just fog. But I'm sure if it was just that you'd have already messed with those settings, but I had to ask, just in case.

I'm not entirely sure which setting in the INI controls that though, though there is the possibility that you could have changed it in the INI unknowingly.

This is normal. You'd have to increase uGridsToLoad to a much greater value but it is not recommended, because you'll get any sorts of bugs. Those buildings on a distance like Ayleid ruins and forts, as well as statues, ships and so on are being loaded in a cell. I'd rather not explain how it works in details, but it is what it is. You need to generate LODs for them to minimize pop-ins.
Google RAEVWD. It is very performance demanding though so you will most likely have to kill other draw distance settings to run it smoothly.
