Merchants never run out of iron arrows, bug???
When I purchase arrows from a weapons merchant in IC the merchant's inventory never goes below 20 arrows, and I sell back the arrows they get stuck in his inventory and when I buy them back his inventory does not change at all. I was able to get his inventory to 10K arrows this way by buying and selling back :).

Example - the merchant has 120 arrows initially, I buy all 120 from him but he still has 20 left in his inventory, I buy the rest of 20 again, but he still has 20 left, I sell back 140 arrows and he has 260 now, now I buy 260 from him and, surprise, he still has 260 in the inventory, from this point his inventory only grows when you sell but never goes down. What's going on? This is totally screws up trading. IDK if any other items affected, so far only arrows are.

This happens in vanilla game. I have even installed a fresh copy of Oblivion with no mods or anything and I still get this glitch. Anyone else has this "infinite" arrows merchants glitch? It happens to any merchant regardless and so far only with arrows, everything else works as it suppose to, I'm out of ideas. Search did not reveal any discussions about this glitch.

Perhaps that is one of the issues fixed by the unofficial patch? You're talking about Rohssan, right?

AFAIK, NPCs can have items with negative counts in its inventories, and that's mostly used for food when they have AI packages that makes the eat at certain times of the day... so they never run out of food.

But it could be that that particular merchant is a hunter or something, or have an AI package that makes him wander and kill stuff with its bow, and that's why he also have replenishing arrows?

So far I have tried all merchants in IC that sell arrows and they all have the same bug. I have tried the UOP as well, didn't fix this issue by no means. Just wander if this is "normal" game behavior or something is broken on my end. I honestly do not remember this sort of behavior when I was playing Oblivion the very first time years ago. I'm starting re-play now :).

I honestly not remember almost anything from vanilla :(

Since I've been playing almost all the time with at least an Overhaul installed always, that most assuredly edits every NPC inventory in the game, I could probably never seen that issue myself...

It could be also that it's a real issue in the game but that the Unofficial Oblivion Patch fixes it! I never played Oblivion without the UOP myself :P (*)

If there's no definitive answer, I'll check Oblivion.esm with TES4Edit tomorrow to see if the issue is present in the vanilla game or not.

(*) I'm assuming you don't have it installed since you said "no mods" in your OP.

I have noticed it is almost always after I buy a few iron arrows (10 to 50 or some other random number) and then try to buy out the rest. my .02 cents

I have tried both with UOP and without, same things unfortunately :(. I've been running OOO and bunch of other mods altogether when I have noticed the issue and trying to track down the root cause I have removed all mods one by one and even re-downloaded the game just in case (didn't help of course but I was out of ideas). Thank you for the replies, much appreciate it. I'm gonna look at the records in the editor and see what's in the base game.

If it helps I just run vanilla along with Shivering isles and (Knights of) Nine

It's an issue in the base game... I finally had some time to check this in TES4Edit.

This is the chest that several merchants in the use as base (two in the Imperial City and one in Leyawiin):

Look at the count specified for the Iron Arrows item... that's why they never run out of them. And there are probably other examples of this same behaviour for other chest used by other merchants that sell arrows.

There should be several mods in the Nexus for fixing this, if you want this fixed... probably most Overhauls and economy rebalance mods should tweak merchant supplies, at least in theory, touch this... either editing it or by scripts.

Pretty sure I don't have the issue in my game (I'm using Maskar's, Oscuro's and Enhanced Economy), but I haven't had the need to buy arrows for a long time :)

Next time I'm around the imperial city gonna check Rohssan and see if her arrows replenish :D

Yes, I found a lot of merchants have "infinite" iron arrows, ended up going through CS and making my own small mod that fixes this. None of overhauls I use fix this either nor Enhanced Economy. I have also tested and yes the arrows replenish after waiting between 24h to 3d, I think base game resets inventory in 3 days, but Enhanced Economy has own scripts for rebalancing merchants inventory. So end to end I'm happy with the end result, I don't have this infinite arrows bug and merchants restock arrows as well. BTW, I have found in the container lists "infinite" bear pelts as well that are set to -5 values, fixed them as well. Thank you for checking this our on your end, much appreciate time and effort!

It's not a bug...................
If your primary weapon is the bow how do you expect to fight if you run out of ammo????
Iron arrows are the weakest so obviously they sell them infinitely. It would be a bug if all arrows were sold infinitely. More over you still have to buy them in packs of 20 so it's tedious if you really need a lot of them.

Actually, it's a feature.
