Can someone explain to me what Major and Minor skills are?
So I know what you may be thinking, why don't I just google this. Believe me I tried but maybe I'm just plain stupid because I'm still having trouble understanding it. So now I'm asking here, could someone provide me with a simple explanation between the two and how their leveling works? I'd really appreciate it.

The major skills are the ones that are expected to be used the most, as dictated by what class you are. So Warriors, for example, have a bunch of combat-related skills for their Major skills, as that's what the game expects them to use most often. If a skill doesn't fall into that group, it's considered a Minor skill.

Major skills = training them makes you level up when you rest.

Some people recommend placing your favorite skills as minors instead of majors to not risk underleveling because the enemies (and quest rewards) scale to your character's level and, if you make the wrong choices, you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

There's always the easy difficult though...

To add to this a major skill starts at level 25 and not 5 (baring racial bonuses) and will gain more xp then minor skills and each stat has three skills linked to it, the best way is to make skills that are hardier to train your major ones so that you can level up the minor skills to maximise on your stat gains when you level.

Which skills in your opinion are harder to level up?

In my opinion Mercantile is annoying because you cannot sell stuff in bulk due to each sale not item sold gives xp so selling arrows is annoying. Alchemy I find annoying too but this is mostly due to how many resources you need to gain xp.

Try use this mod[www.nexusmods.com] if you find that's annoying.

It allows you to sell one item at a time from the stack of it by holding Ctrl and left click. Really handy mod.

If you make Alchemy a major skill and have a class with a specialization in magic (like Mage), you can reach 100 alchemy in a couple hours of just fast traveling between the various mage guild halls making Restore Fatigue potions from the food you find there. If you start with 25 alchemy it will take 920 potions to reach 100.
