Changing Classes and Races midgame
Hello,

I was playing oblivion and i have been stumbling upon how difficult this game is with me in level 15 with fair loot. I use a vanilla glass longsword with enchanted light elven armor. My attributes seem to not be bad as most of them appear blue ,I completed most guild quests including mages guild, since its a pain in the ass to enchant properly in the game i could not have a lot of enchanted weaponry . The only problem is my magicka and magical skills

my magicka is about 144... Dont know why i struggle in combat but this, may be the reason.

So i thought about having a major change to my character, if you have been following patiently i suppose you have something to say about this struggling game of mine? I have not gone into detail so feel free to ask me anything and please help me with this.I really like the game and i cant even play on normal difficulty.

Max magicka is affected by intelligence, and what birth sign you have. It doesn't increase every level, unless your intelligence is raised on level up.

But don't fret, oblivion has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ level scaling, so for most builds, level 15 is when the game is the hardest, way harder than level 2. It's oblivion biggest flaw imo.

I don't remember the exact details (I used to know the game inside and out down to all the mechanics), but most stuff stops scaling in the base game around level 20, besides like a very small handful of enemies, that scale up with you forever (I seem to remember it only being like 3 creatures, an ogre, and I forget the other two, but maybe xivilai and storm atronach or something).

In shivering isles their scaling limit is a little higher though, but it's not as atrocious as the base game scaling. But point is if you make it to level 21, it all gets easier from there.

I will admit that i cheated and done some improvements to my char by making a simple Battlemage build. Its all good! But i am afraid the major skills dont increase anymore when i changed my class and set my skills to normal numbers without their bonuses. No increase in major skills just yet. Should i be afraid or is it normal because they are high for my current level?

Changing race mid-game typically doesn't go so well unless you really know what you're doing.

Sounds like you've increased skills without increasing their associated XP levels. In that case, you'd need to go out and earn sufficient XP to justify those increases before you'll start to see them increase any further.

Note that if you'd gained any "buff" perks through quests, you've very likely permanently broken those too.

Blue simply means those stats aren't being buffed or debuffed. If any are red (debuffed), then you can fix that: in most cases, simply visiting a shrine (eg the ones in the temples) will restore you.

enchantments and alchemy go a long way when it comes to making up for deficiencies in your builds

hell, the only real way to completely screw a character is to go atronach without knowing how atronach works and not being prepared to deal with the consequences, or to a lesser extent going altmer / the lord and not carrying anything for fire resist when traipsing around the deadlands
