Glitch on The Elven Maiden quest (Thieves Guild)

I bought this game recently and I am enjoying it. Or I was until I encountered a glitch on my quest for the thieves guild. It's the last quest given by Armand Christophe to go to Cheyhindal and steal a bust of Llathasa Indarys. When you go back to the waterfront, there are guards all over the place looking for Armand. You wait and talk to Methredal (a fellow guild member), and she gives a plan to frame someone. You end up planting the bust in a cupboard and talking to H. Lex (the watch captain present) and using speechcraft to get him to check out the house, and you're supposed to frame the person, get to Armand, and collect your reward. Well, every single time I've retried this, I always get stuck on the cutscene where you enter the house after you've talked with the captain, and he finds the bust, but he ends up fading out as if he walked out the door. I can't get past this glitch, and that means I can't complete the thieves guild (which my character is kinda built for) and that leaves me asking for help.
