OBSE not working AT ALL
This may be old and i may find few if anyone who may be able to assist me but i have been stuck on this simple problem for about two weeks now. OBSE won't load. and With that i will go down the list of things i have done to make it work.I have...
1. Made sure the files I was downloading were up to date, ver. 2.1 if not not mistaken was the latest.
2. reinstalled oblivion and the mod managers i was using. I am very new to modding Oblivion as i just got the game and have stalled on putting any mods in as i found the this is very necessary.
3. I have wiped my computer and reinstalled everything from a fresh face. I messed up a lot on the first go and screwed up way too much plus my machine needed a cleaning. i fixed every problem i have had except this one as its stayed a constant problem.
4. I only have one drive so it cant be across multiple drives.

To put my problem short, I simply cant find where my problem lies. OBSE's test plugin doesn't show up and the logs it has created are only from the times Ive tried opening it through its own launcher. If someone has another idea that i haven't listed, please feel free to tell me and maybe i can find the solution through a simple solution i just have done. I feel like i done just about everything aside from manually extending the script myself. but if Ive tried everything i wouldn't be here asking questions

Do you have enabled the Steam Overlay function? From what I can remember, OBSE+Steam integration depends on it.

If all else fails, you can go to https://obse.silverlock.org/ and download the GOG launcher from there (the one marked by the text "USE THIS WITH THE GOG VERSION") and replace your obse_loader with the one in that download, and tht would allow you to use the obse_loader.exe for steam too.

i have done both of those and yet still nothing is cropping up. steam overlay has never been the issue as it always pulls up. ive even tried it without the steam overlay to see if that would work and it hasn't. im just continuing to play without it but its becoming incresingly difficult to play without it because it keeps crashing when i try to load places to fast

Hmm... do you have Oblivion installed into Program Files? If so, have you tried running the obse_loader.exe as Admin?

What "test" plugin are you talking about? The first search result I get is this[www.nexusmods.com], which should give you some sort of notice regardless as to whether OBSE is active or not: meaning that if you get nothing, then the plugin isn't active and OBSE may well be working fine.

That's no good for the Steam release: attempting to use the OBSE loader manually will just have it tell you off for doin it rong. You need to have Steam launch the game so that the overlay can start OBSE for you.

I'm not aware of anything in OBSE that would stop the game from crashing when "loading places too fast". Frankly I'm not aware of anything in Oblivion which would cause crashes when loading areas "too fast" (and that's saying something, because there's certainly a lot of things I know of that will crash Oblivion).

How "fast" are we talking, here? Running through the overworld with a speed stat of 400?

OBSE didn't come with a test plugin in prior versions so it was just a useful additive to make sure OBSE was working fine. But OBSE is today's version has the plugin already come with it. its the little message you get when you first load up OBSE with oblivion. it'll tell you to wait 15 seconds and then tell you whether or not OBSE was installed correctly or not.

As for the loading too fast its more like as soon as i leave an dungeon through its front door then immediately ask to go into my inventory and try to fast travle, the fast travle will crash the game. But reloading the save and trying the fast travle again never seems to fail.

The obse_loader.exe I pointed to the OP (the one labeled as for the GOG version) do work on the Steam release (it has the Steam installation check stripped out), in fact it all comes from this problem some people have, and ShadeMe made it available[2] as an optional download after I posted[1] the issue in the (old) official forums.

That was before the GOG version, I think. When they did the recompile for the GOG version they sort of merged the two issues.

Hmm... none of the official download packages come with a plugin, not as downloaded either from silverlock or nexus. I remember a test plugin someone made some time ago, but I'm not entirely sure it's sure proof... as it's not official (i.e. OBSE) provided, it may have bugs, too.

Best sure way to know for real of OBSE is working, is look in your Oblivion directory (the folder containing the EXE) and see if OBSE.log is being generated there... and if it's there, delete it and run the game again.

Now check if it was regenerated and open it to see what it does say, if it's working you should be able to find something like this inside (start of the file):

OBSE: initialize (version = 21.4 010201A0) oblivion root = C:\Games\Bethesda\Oblivion Home\Oblivion\ config path = C:\Games\Bethesda\Oblivion Home\Oblivion\Data\OBSE\obse.ini plugin directory = C:\Games\Bethesda\Oblivion Home\Oblivion\Data\OBSE\Plugins\

EDIT: And obviously shouldn't contain error messages! If there's an error message in there, it may have the clue we need to know what's happening!

NOTE: You may have to enable Show File Extensions in the File Explorer to see that you're handling the correct file!

Well prior to today of me just playing the game, i would only have the log file ever show the same message as you would get from trying to open OBSE's loader. even after deleting the log that all that i woulfd get. But after playing today i have got a full log file complete with the file paths you have descibed. So as it would seem i now have OBSE working so I thank everyone who tried to help me and to those who took the time to read my plight. Sorry this doesnt come out with a answer to the problem but thank you none the less

After 2-3 hours of toiling I believe I have managed to get OCO (2) to work. For the record I am running on Win7. Here's my steps that may help.

1. Latest OBSE into primary Oblivion folder (it has oblivion.exe)
2. Attempt to launch via Steam (this is where I crashed over and over)
3. Open C:\Users\ [YOURUSERNAME] \Documents\My Games and delete Oblivion folder. This folder exists regardless of installation directory as far as I can tell.
4. Relaunch Oblivion via steam, launch with only the master file (this is probably irrelevant I just want to verify each component prior to proceeding), it should make you reconfigure your settings
5+. MAKE SURE OBLIVION LAUNCHES EVERY. SINGLE. TIME THAT YOU ADD ANYTHING

I have no idea why this works. I figured out to delete the Oblivion folder in My Games from https://steamcommunity.com/app/22330/discussions/0/620700960804864143/ that post

EDIT: Sorry that I didn't note this if you lost something, but that folder does contain your save files which you can back up if you wish, I just had a fresh install so I didn't think about it
