How do i get the key for wellspring cave?
It says i have to start a quest where i can loot the key off of a body, and then i can go into the grove to get a staff. Do i need to get all of the recommendations to start this?

The body with the key only appears once you start the "A Mage's Staff" quest, which indeed requires you to get all the recommendations first.
