Murder on the Cheap (Joining the Dark Brotherhood)
I need to kill someone to get in with the dark brotherhood, but I don't want to kill anyone relavent to anything else. Any recommendations?

Any Unique person won't be able to be killed, youll just knock them out and they will wake back up. A random begger might be your best bet

City guards respawn, if you can find an isolated one. They can be a bit tough though, depending on level.

Nope! Lots of "uniques" lack the essential flag - certainly most all beggars don't have it. Only characters which have a crown for their "talk" icon do.

I wound up using console commands to draw a guard away from his post and then ambushed him. I had to do time at the next city I was in, which cost me some skill points, but whatevs.

The Arena questline's final match counts as a murder if you do the side quest for the Gray Prince. He refuses to fight and just wants to die so it counts as killing in cold blood and the Dark Botherhood will take notice. This is a good way to kill two birds with one stone.

Don't kill the beggars, if you plan on doing the Thieves Guild. They are valuable sources of information. Instead kill the skooma dealers in Bravil.

You could just make the arena, the last fight count as murder.

I did it with the "Two sides of the coin" quest in Bruma. It's a short one that you get by listening to rumors.

Apparently Ilend Vonius inside the Kvatch Oblivion Gate is a good way to do it. He's kind of useless anyway and there are no witnesses in Oblivion. ;-)

That only counts as murder, if you do the quest, the Grand Champion has for you.

I killed Betto Plotius and his wife. They aren't relevant to any quests that I am aware of, and they don't offer any services (skill training, armor repair, enchantment, etc.), so they are a safe target. They're in Leyawin.
