need help opening door

I just started the game. I have the dungen iron key in my inventory but the door will not open. How do I get the door open so I can leave the dungen?

Do you know how to open the game console? Press the tilde key (~), click on the door, and type "open" without the quotation marks.

I had to use the unlock command. Is the problem with the key a known bug?

It's not on UESP's list for that quest[en.uesp.net], and over the years that site has come to include pretty much every TES bug known to man.

Are you certain you ended up leaving the sewers through the intended route? There are a number of doors that you're not supposed to be able to open.

What door?? You likely have the wrong key, BUT

If you're trying to escape the prison from the starting door or in fact any door that isn't directly to the sewers, you're not meant to.

No it was the door the king went through. The passage to the cell is blocked and this was the only door I saw.

Okay, you're not meant to go through there. When they tell you not to follow them, a rat should come out of the wall and attack you. Kill the rat and go through the hole it made.

And there is a door out in that room? I went into that and thats where I got the key. I'll go back and take a look.

Thanks to all. That was the problem. I missed the correct door. I reloaded a save and went out through the correct door.

Where the king died you go through where the assassin came out. you hsve to jump through kinda...not hard to do. The key baurus gives you is for the key to the sewer exit level....
