The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Can anyone help me?
So I've recently found my old pc/dvd copy of Fallout 3/Oblivion 2 in 1... I do not have a functioning CD drive at the moment, I won't for a while. I recently discovered that you can activate / download games on steam if you have the product/cd key. I did this with Medieval 2 Total War and it worked a treat, even got the DLC somehow.

My version of Oblivion will not work on Steam however. It is a "games for windows" game, but I cannot google this and have any luck. If I add the word key, product or activate, it only shows me results relating to activating windows OS.. Is there a way to redeem specifically "games for windows" games that I am missing? Checked store on win 10, checked online.. Having no luck and it's really dulled my excitement to play this gaain

For me and anyone else it should link with Steam when you use to disc to install the game.
The product key you have likely isn't for the Steam version of the game I'd assume.

If you can’t find a way to get it working, the deluxe version is on the summer sale now at 50%!

This. Oblivion's earlier PC releases weren't associated with Steam - a GFW key means nothing to Valve.

If you want to use that key then you need to install from disc. Even then I'm not sure it'll work - Microsoft dropped support for GFW long ago. I hear tell the client software isn't compatible with Windows 10, for example.
TBH this game is worth buying twice. Especially since you will pay next to nothing with a discount during a sale now. I've basically repurchased all my CD games that I still play that I could find on Steam, digital lasts longer than CD that stops working in 1-2 decades anyway.
