Although Zealot's Hood from Shivering Isle looks really good with Leather Cuirassthan any shirts. And I do think of the combination with both Heavy and Light Armors. I'm working on a mod to make Chainmail Greaves to look like the female version of its inventort icon; where it looks like a chainmail stocking with suspender belt that shows the wear's skin a little. Thought I have no idea of how to use Nifscope and such.
I mostly play as Female Argonian and there aren't many good looking 'pants' for female character. Most of them turn into skirts, so I had to install a mod that adds bunch of pants for both male and female.
As a result, with the exception of mages (who are pure clothes/robe) I tend to do both armor and clothes, depending on situation/quest/character.
Some are in armor more than others, but most have a set of around town clothes. My assassin, in particular, has a few different sets, as I like to role play, the observation of targets, in different disguises.
It creates more of a casual adventure feel, so I generally only use armor with appropriate for the narrative situation
